Northview High School honored athletic director, baseball and softball coach Sammy Day on Friday before the Chiefs took on Chipley.
Day, who will retire at the end of this school year, has been a teacher and coach for 37 years in the Escambia County School District. He is the only athletic director ever at Northview High School, after serving many years at Ernest Ward High School.
His accomplishments include a 1982 state championship while coaching boy’s baseball at the former Ernest Ward High School.

WAY TO GO COACH DAY… WE AS NHS STUDENTS ARE PROUD OF YOU
I only know Sammy outside the school system and I can only believe the kind words here have to be true as I have always ranked him as top notch. I have always regarded Sammy, his immediate family and his extended family as the type of people who would do anything for you in a moments notice and enjoy being able to offer the help. Congratulations Sammy on all your accomplishments, your retirement and all your future endeavors. Hopefully you will find time to wet the hook a little more now
God Bless Coach Day!! EWHS Class of ‘82…You were my driver’s ed sub and homeroom teacher, and one other class I forget now! lol You are da bomb Coach!!
If any coach deserves to be honored, it’s coach Day. I and many of my friends and family have known him for many years. He is and has always been and kind and patient man even after teaching and coaching my and my cousin (Brandon Phillips) and our many friends. After that, I have no idea how he had any kindness or patience left but he always did. I’m sorry that I missed it. I would have loved to have been there. Keep doing what you do Coach. I’m sure there are still heathens and hooligans like we were that could use you guildance.
This man has done what many future educational staff should strive for……..”YOUR SIMPLY THE BEST” Coach …….NICE JOB!!!!
