Mail Truck Fire?
April 20, 2012
The Cantonment Station of Escambia Fire Rescue responded Friday afternoon after the U.S. Mail truck seen in this photo was reported to be on fire as it traveled along Highway 29. Multiple people reported that the trailer of the truck was on fire. When the vehicle stopped and firefighters caught up with it, they discovered the excessive smoke was an engine issue, not a fire. Some of our mail is carried by private contractors so it might not have been a taxpayer issue.
>>I wonder if the Cantonment Fire Station got a call or just spotted it passing with all the smoke 150ft back?
Several 911 callers and was reported by a passing Escambia County EMS unit.
I wonder if the Cantonment Fire Station got a call or just spotted it passing with all the smoke 150ft back?
And we wonder why the U.S. Postal Service is going broke. The driver should have pulled over at the first sign of smoke. This will probably cost big bucks to repair.
Now that’s HotMail.com. I’d say! LOL Thank God nothing too serious.
Thats what happens when you blow a seal or break a shaft in the turbocharger It pumps the engines oil straight into the exhaust and you get lots of smoke at least till the engine runs out of oil ! Just some Info for those wondering why it was smoking so bad! Note; If the engine runs out of oil before the driver stops it cost about $20,000 to repair, if he stops when it starts smoking it only cost about $1,800 ! Yes I work on big truck every day!
DARN IT, There goes my check from Publisher’s Clearing House!!!!
Neither snow nor rain nor heat or gloom……..glad there were no injuries!
I passed him headed home north bound as he was going south bound. The smoke was so bad it had both sides of Hwy 29 slowing almost to a stop… Glad everyone is ok and it wasn’t on fire!!
