Ok people Why are you talking about GUNS this has nothing to do with the story at hand . 2 people were injured by an ATV not a gun . Not need for the debates on guns . I hope the 2 injured are ok no matter what the circumstances are for them being out late .

A gun is just a gun but the ammunition, now there is a killer!
Ahh the arguments we have on here. :-)

It would be nice if we could just say how we hope everyone is okay and wish this would never happen again.

If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make us drive drunk, & spoons made Rosie O’Donnell fat….

My point is that most have assumed the worst without any facts. Accidents are sometimes just that accidents. Some are our fault, some are not. Maybe a dog ran infront of her, maybe she had a medical condition, maybe she was just irresponsible.

Should she have been out riding at night? No, but we don’t know why she was.

Should the 11yr old been with her? No, not at night but again we don’t know why.

Yes they could have been out joyriding and acting completly irresponsible, the adult might have completly disregarded the safety of the 11yr old but we don’t have all the facts. We really don’t have any facts just the basics.

    REGARDING:
“- – - please try to come up with something original besides the tired old regurgitation that “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”.”

People shouldn’t abandon truth just because it is old. In fact, it’s part of the nature of truth that it doesn’t change with the winds.

I hate to break it to you barack reagan but you are wrong. A gun is just one of many inanimate objects that human use to kill other humans, and although there are guns that can be programmed to kill other humans without a human operator , they are primarilly used by the military and are beyond the scope of our silly little arguement. I tend to like the statement that pencils dont fail tests, stupid liberals with pencils do.

@Angie. The mere fact that an 11 year old was on the ATV is the problem. There is a placard on every ATV made that clearly states that persons under the age of 16 should not operate the ATV. “Doubleheading” if this is the case is even more dangerous.

    REGARDING:
“Was there more reported on this story that I missed? We’re assuming the adult driver did something wrong.”

It’s not THAT bad an assumption. Somebody got hurt, so whatever caution was used was insufficient. ATVs can’t legally be on the road at all, so driving them anywhere should be off-road and there are many hazards off-road.

Injuries sustained around 9 pm sound like a time of reduced visibility. Maybe not, but it’s reasonable to think so.

Unless the injuries were from a collision with a vehicle which had run off the road, the speed and path were such as to cause the injuries. Even then, drivers need situational awareness to recognize dangers approaching.

We don’t know many details yet and can only guess at them. it is hard to imagine something going wrong, though, if nothing were done wrong first.

    Meanwhile, we’re hoping they’re okay.

Don’t compare ATV’s to guns, and if you insist on doing so, please try to come up with something original besides the tired old regurgitation that “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”.

You’re wrong, guns DO kill people, if the person wasn’t holding a GUN, then the other person would likely not be DEAD.

Wait for it: “Well if the person didn’t have a gun, they’d just use a knife”. Yeah, right. Very few people possess the viciousness to stab another person to death. It’s much more dangerous and personal.

Was there more reported on this story that I missed? We’re assuming the adult driver did something wrong. We’re assuming they were out joy riding. We’re assuming she was driving fast and or recklessly. They could have been but I didn’t read that in this article.
    Just wondering.

I often see ATVs out on Hwy 95A or along side the road. This is not what they are intended for. It is dangerous for both the ATV driver and the drivers on the road. Please…keep these ATVs away from roads…no one wants another ATV accident, much less an accident involving an ATV and a car or truck. There are big 18 wheelers coming through at high speeds and they can simply blow one of these over! Sometimes the trucks don’t even slow down when you are in front of them with your turn signal on to let them know you are turning!

I pray they recover and learn from this..

@CW anything can be used for “fun” even though that is NOT what is was intended for and it is more dangerous when it is used incorrectly. Driving fast on anything can be deadly… motorcycles, boats, jetskis, etc… If used for high speed “fun” the end is in pain or death for someone. Be prepared it may be your child that pays it for you.

Its pretty straight forward. Adults can take chances but should be prepared to possibly pay with their life… or worse a lingering time till after several weeks they die anyway.

Children don’t know any better than those who teach them. If they are foolish and allow their children to to PLAY with something that is dangerous they are responsible for what happens. This goes for ATV’s, Motorcycles, a gun… If they are not taught how to correctly used it the parents are at fault and should blame NO ONE but their self.

So many kids are dieing on these things and being hurt. Adults should have better sense then to carry their children around on these. Clearly they are just riding them slowly or safe like.

I think if you put your child on it, drive fast and get in an accident you should be charged with some sort of neglect

Atmore, it’s simple don’t know what you are doing stay off of them.I do agree people take chances and are a danger to themselves and others, but just as I said if you do not know how to handle an atv stay off. It’s just like guns.People are all against guns cause as “they” say guns kill people. It takes a person to pull the trigger so guns are not the prolem it’s who is holding it that is the problem.Same with anything know what you’re doing or yes people including yourself could get hurt.Hope they make a full recovery from their injuries and glad GOD was with them.

  16. atmore on April 1st, 2012 1:23 pm

Cw I disagree, people that think they know how to ride are the most dangerous, they take more chances. I have known alot of people that have gotten hurt on ATV’s. I dislike them.

  17. CW on April 1st, 2012 8:22 am

    @Mic Hall

There’s nothing wrong with using an ATV for having fun, as long as you KNOW how to ride it. Same thing goes for motorcycles, boats, jetskis, etc…

  18. Mic Hall on April 1st, 2012 7:35 am

ATV’s are just about the most dangerous thing you can get on .. and twice as much after dark.

They should NEVER be used for a thrill. EVER!. They are just to dangerous for that. You would not thrill ride with a car or truck would you … oh wait there are people that do that on the roads and in the woods too.

ATV’s should only be used for transportation in woods or other areas that are not easily accessible by larger vehicle.

riding at night..hope they had helmets…and hope they are okay
