Century Man Charged With Felony Animal Abuse

April 5, 2012

A Century man has been charged with allegedly abusing and starving two horses.

Kendrick Jamar Washington, age 23 of Jefferson Avenue, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on two felony counts of animal cruelty.

According to an arrest report, Washington placed two horses into a lot on Ramar Street in Century surrounded by a makeshift barbed wire fence. Barbed wire was hanging inside the pen, causing a serious injury to the front leg of one horse.

On January 24, animal control officers found that one horse was tied to a post; the second was found on its side in mud and dirt, unable to get up. Neither horse had access to food or shelter, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report. Both of the animals were obviously underweight.

Both horses were transported to the Northwest Florida Animal Clinic in Pace for treatment.

Washington was arrested Tuesday night on an outstanding warrant related to the incident. He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

    REGARDING:
“we all know this will not be the last time we hear about this
    man.”

Nor is it the first. He has an interesting record in a number of fields.

Something has to have gone wrong in this young mans life. May we all watch him
and be sure he never ever has animals again. I will never never understand this
kind of cruelty, but we all know this will not be the last time we hear about this
    man.

Lest We Forget; good point. The public is outraged initially and so happy when Panhandle Equine Rescue steps in to rescue horses. They may send in a one time donation, which is greatly appreciated. But PER takes responsibility for the horses for their lifetime. If they get adopted and the person comes to a point where they can no longer care for them, they come back to us. We currently have 19 horses in foster care; most of them have been adopted at one point and came back. We have horses that were rescued in 2006 in Escambia County that are still in our foster program. We also assisted in this Century rescue, as well as the donkey rescue currently on this site. If you would like to see PER continue to help horses and see that violators are prosecuted, please send in your tax deductible donation to PER, P.O. Box 777, Cantonment, FL. 32533.

Folks unless ‘we the people’ start becoming active, writing legislators, congressmen, etc., these inhumane individuals are going to continue to get mere “slaps on the hand” for these crimes.

Look at all the cases in the news every day referencing animal cruelty. The public gets all fired up when the stories are released. Then, with a little time, all is forgotten & we move on with our little lives.

Have all the locals forgotten the woman in Flomaton that intentionally shot the horse and burned her barn for insurance money? The same woman had fraudulently collected on an horse insurance policy before. What did she get? A “slap on the hand” is all, a little probation and she has animals again. Yep, just get a good old local attorney, let a little time go by (so the media dies down), and there you go……FREE AT LAST!!!!!!

How soon WE forget, people. Everyone has an opinion, several make comments, most are outraged….but, how many REALLY try to get the problems, the shortfalls in law, corrected?

It’s so very sad to see anything suffer. It’s hardest to see those creatures, who cannot provide for themselves, suffer……..that includes children, too.

Stepping down from my soapbox, now. May God Bless Us All….WE NEED IT!!!

So he had the money to bail himself out but not to care for the poor horses! Put him in a barbed wire enclosure in the rain with no shelter or food/water for a few weeks before he goes to jail! I will never understand why people will do such bad things to animals!

I’ve always felt a person that will abuse animals..will do the same to a person….some say you may have been treated badly as a child and you have issues that brings this behavior out …the thing that brings this behavior out is a pure and simple mean streak that you were born with…true enough a bad environment can add to how we make decisions of right or wrong but there is something missing so deep in a person that will abuse innocent animals that can’t help themselves…if you are not going to care for your animals ..DON”T GET THEM!!!!!! there are plenty of us out here that will care for them…I would not want to be in this young mans shoes when he meets his Maker…there is a great punishment awaiting him unless he seeks forgiveness for this awful thing…he will no doubt be in a long line…as we see more and more of this in the news…speaking up for those beautiful animals that can not speak for themselves….

He was able to come up with the cash to bail himself out of jail. That means he was not in a hardship situation and not able to buy food for the animals.
A disgusting excuse for a human being.

He won’t even understand what he was arrested for, you can see that by the smirk on his face. Probably thinks he did nothing wrong.
