Work Begins On New Family Dollar In Century

March 11, 2012

A construction project is underway on a new Family Dollar store in Century.

The 8,000  square foot discount retail store will be located at 9441 North Century Boulevard — that’s at the corner of North Century Boulevard and Green Street. The site was last occupied by Royal Pizza and Subs, which was destroyed by fire in July 2008. Prior to that, the property housed a barbecue restaurant.  The 1.22 acre lot is located just south of the Food Giant grocery store.

There’s no word yet on the number of jobs the business will provide, or when the discount store will open.

Family Dollar currently operates 6,800 stores in 44 states. Other Family Dollar Stores in the North Escambia area are located in Davisville, Cantonment, Pensacola and Atmore.

What about a Ross or TJ MAX? What we NEED is a clothing retailer that is affordable for all citizens. It is rediculous that you have to drive 20 to 40 miles just to get a decent outfit.

I’d rather see a Publix between here and the Winn Dixie in Cantonment!

My goodness, maybe another dollar store is not what we wished for, but hang in there because there is room for more business. Some people could never be happy. I am going to hope something else will follow before long. Let’s be happy for any thing new the town can bring in, because it’s more money for the town. To country boy, I agree with you a nice family eating place would be great, so let’s hope that will be here soon. This is my town and I will NEVER give up on it!

I doubt Wal Mart would ever locate in Century. With a store in Brewton, and one in Bay Minette, and then Ensley, Century just doesn’t have a greater median family income level than these other areas have.

they can place a goat roping arena there as long as it brings in a tax base to help the town. we’ve got too many people complaining and looking for a hand out.

Come on people it’s more about JOBS!!!!!
Who cares that it is another Dollar store.
The town is at least moving forward.
Century has gotten Whataburger, Chinese Rest. and renovated grocery store. And they have people in the Town Council that are trying to bring in more businesses.
Flomaton has gotten _A_ McDonalds and Library but little else.
I see progress to restore the town to a busy on the move place, but it takes time.
So be thankful some folks are working hard to improve.

Really? What’s the point of having a cvs and two dollar stores then adding another one? We really need another place to eat around here

    Good for them….

So the Family Dollar will be straight across from the General Dollar Store? Is that a Family Dollar or General Dollar Store in Flomotan (sp) after you cross the bridge?

    It is a Dollar General…

Great, now all we need is a title pawn, check cashing place, and a pay day advance. That should do it.
