Two Men Arrested For Food Giant Robbery

March 24, 2012

Two men were arrested Friday for a December robbery at  the Food Giant grocery store in Century.

Danielle Kapric Burt, age 26 of Century, and Derrick Antonio Cohen, age 23 of Pensacola, were each charged with felony robbery, felony larceny and battery. Both were released Friday from the Escambia County Jail on $21,000 bond.

On the morning of December 23, the manager of the Food Giant was getting into a vehicle with the daily bank deposit when he was struck from behind. The deposit, containing checks and an undisclosed amount of cash was snatched by a then unknown assailant who then ran behind the store, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

A manhunt with a Century Correctional Institute K-9 team followed, but no suspects were located.

Multiple witnesses were able to pin the robbery on Burt and place Cohen as the driver of a getaway car, which was parked a short distance away on Henry Street, according to an arrest report.

@ Tired of people, maybe I don’t know the whole story. So explain the part that gave them the right to rob the man. Maybe eve explain what you mean about seeing the witnesses in court. Do you plan on trying to scare them into not showing up? Or maybe beating people down and robbing them is Ok with you. I just don’t know so please explain.

I’m so tired of these want-to-be gangsters! Robbing people and roaming the streets instead of working! These guys are DUMB and DUMBER! Both of them are scared to death right now and neither one of them is ready to do any time in Prison. But guess what…….They are about to experience prison life. What idiots rob the grocery store manager in a town as small as Century and think that no one can identify you?? His name is Danielle? Boy they will be waiting with open arms at your first stop off the prison bus! This is crazy. The best part of this is yet to come. I can’t wait to see which one of them starts to tell on the other one first. Two young African American males headed for prison…….pathetic. Dont let this happen to your child.

@David Huie Green, Thanks David for not beating me for my opinion. I’m just a dreamer I guess. At one point in my life I used to think there was good in all people but those who want to beat me for thinking that laws on the book should be enforced without a trial in some cases. I stayed home tonight to avoid a beating. :) …just trying to stay away from Big T…Thanks again

    CONSIDERING:
“We as tax payers and voter’s need to make it a part of all the Judge’s job to were they have to go by all the stores and get the money bags, and take them to the bank for them. I beat you @Big B. this is not there first time, and I beat you Big B. that Judge new that 2, I aso beat you Big B. they will be up to no good tonight do you wont to take that beat??”

Just consider using “where” for where rather than were, “bet” for bet rather than beat, “too” for too rather than 2, “knew” for knew rather than new, “want“ for want rather than wont. Maybe it was clear to everybody else but I thought you were beating poor @BigB and that you believed the judge knew the two accused gentlemen. Maybe he does, I don’t know.

Anyhow, if the following doesn’t do a better job of getting your thoughts across, I apologize:

    ————————————————
We, as tax payers and voters, need to make it a part of all the judges’ jobs to where they have to go by all the stores, get the money bags, and take them to the bank for them.

I bet you @Big B this is not their first time, and I bet you Big B that judge knew that too. I also bet you Big B they will be up to no good tonight. Do you want to take that bet??

    ————————————————
    David for avoiding beatings

I just want to say don’t nobody really know what happen and for u people to get on here and down these guys are wrong just because they bond out there family can have money. And neither one or dumb or dumber neither one has to steal or rob. All I can say they going to need there (multiple witness) .

  12. Big B little ill on March 24th, 2012 8:16 am

@JT, they becaue guilty the moment they committed the crime. They are not suspects, they were arrested for committing a felon. I do believe the article said (Multiple witnesses) I can agree that anyone has the right to be proven guilt in a court of law, except for those with multiple witnesses and at that point they should charge them on the spot with no waste of money for a trial. Sorry, just the way I feel.

  13. well on March 24th, 2012 8:06 am

    Two things,

    Innocent until proven guilty.

Scott closing prisons so theres not as much room to lock folks up.

  14. JT on March 24th, 2012 7:40 am

@Big B. By our laws they are innocent until proven guilty. They have the right to a bond until convicted. It is unfortunate they will be out and our system isn’t always great but it is still one of the best.

  15. JM on March 24th, 2012 6:51 am

    WHAT!
This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. These guys not only robbed someone they struck them while in commission of said felony. They are violent offenders and I am outraged they were given bail and put right back out there to hurt a citizen again. The JUDGE needs a wake up call because it is time to take him out of our justice system.

  16. WORRIED RESIDENT on March 24th, 2012 6:34 am

DUMB, and DUMBER!!! That was wasted bail money. If someone had the money to get them out, then what was the purpose of robbing the store? Was the money from the robbery used to bail them out?????

  17. Everett on March 24th, 2012 5:44 am

Years ago there would be “No bond” for this crime. Times have changed.

  18. Big B littlie Ill on March 24th, 2012 3:58 am

Arrested on Friday and released the same day. It’s just way to easy for thugs to be back on the streets to do it again. Maybe even kill the next person they rob.
