Search Continues For Melinda Wall McGhee, Missing For Nine Years

March 26, 2012

Nine years ago the morning of March 24, something went terribly wrong at a home on Kent Road north of Atmore.  Melinda Wall McGhee, then 31, returned to her home about 8 a.m. after working the night shift as a nurse at a Bay Minette nursing home.

Her husband, Troy McGhee, was at work at Masland Carpets in Atmore. Their two children were at a babysitter, and Troy’s son from a previous relationship was at a dentist’s office. At about 8:30 the morning of March 24, 2003, Melinda McGhee spoke to her mother on the phone. It was the last time anyone known to Melinda would ever hear from her.

At about 4:00 that afternoon, husband Troy came home to find Melinda missing. There was blood and evidence of a violent struggle inside the home. He reported his wife missing.

Melinda’s vehicle was found parked near the house with her keys locked inside. Her purse and cellular phone were inside the residence. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance.

Over the years, there have been several searches for Melinda’s body or clues into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

In March 2009, authorities searched an area off Perry Lane in Wawbeek for clues in Melinda’s disappearance. Perry Lane is about a mile north of Highway 31 off Sardis Church Road near Old Atmore Road. The location is about three miles north of the Florida/Alabama line . On the last day of January 2009, authorities searched a water-filled gravel pit off Jack Springs Roads near the Judson Cemetery between Atmore and Poarch. All of the searches have turned up empty.

Anyone with information on McGhee’s disappearance is asked to call the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Department at (251) 809-0741 or their local law enforcement agency.

Please keep this going people. It has been many years this ocurred and technology is SO much greater today. SOMEONE knows something! That someone needs to step up. If you know anything about the days before or after this ocurred please notify the Escambia County Al. S.O.
John Walsh might have been able to help but the power of the internet these days is amazing. Talk to your friends,neighbors,co-workers, anyone that might possibly have a thread of information just might solve this tragedy and give the family some peace. God Bless!

I don’t know this lady or her family, but she is so pretty with a sweet smile. I pray for her family and friends and that there will be closure. Never give up hope…remember the girl in California who came home to her mother 18 years later after being abducted. Anyone who knows anything, or suspects anything, let someone know…it could be important.

there are some cruel people in this place i mean she has kids and everyone needs a moma obvisously whoever has a part of her disappearance didnt have a mother or a good one!! and the law enforcement needs to get on their job and get this case closed so that family can have closer instead of trying to get somebody to knark on somebody(cause thats all they do)!!!

Amanda, that’s too bad that the Alabama law prohibits showing your sister on America’s Most Wanted! The Alabama young lady Natalie Holloway generated a lot of tv/news interest. ( although the case was different) I believe John Walsh might have helped to bring in more clues. Continued thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

I appreciate the post . Melinda was a very dear friend to me. We were co- workers and also went to nursing school together . She was a dear friend and mother . I miss her tremendously . My prayer is that God will not allow the person that took this beautiful lady from here to rest until they come forth. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My heart breaks everytime I see the picture of this beautiful woman. I know her family and the heartache they have suffered over the years. Someone out there knows what happened to Melinda. Please, please contact the authorities if you have any information that may help solve this terrible crime. The family deserves to have closure and can only get it with info. and the loving Grace of our Heavenly Father.

Thank you for posting this. I am Melinda’s sister. Not one single day goes by that I don’t miss her. She was not only my sister, but my best friend. She is irreplaceable. I would like to thank everyone for their prayers. Having Faith that God will provide His closure is all that gets us through this sometimes.

I tried to get her on America’s Most Wanted, but was denied by letter. There is some Alabama law that prohibited it. I just have to believe just to get some peace that God will work this out.

It seems that maybe a cold case team could look at this case with “fresh eyes”. It is a very mysterious case that after all these years there have been so little found out about what happened to that poor woman. I wonder if the got an DNA that they could keep running through the system.

    Maggie

This search stretched as far as Louisiana….I saw a billboard in Baton Rouge with her picture and the question “Have you seen me”? There are so many unanswered questions to this mystery.

I thought about this woman & this case a few days ago…it’s so mysterious that there have been no clues or leads about her. It seems that maybe a cold case team could look at it with “fresh eyes”. Maybe they could come up with something.

Why not contact America’s Most Wanted and have them do the story?? Maybe John Walsh could help this family and law enforcement.

I hope someone comes forward so that her family can have closure. They could call the sheriff’’s office and tell where she is without telling who they were.
