Deputies Searching For Cop Impersonator

March 1, 2012

Escambia Sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify a man who impersonated a law enforcement officer earlier this week.

Deputies received a report from a female who said that she was driving west on Ten Mile Road near Chemstrand Road about 11 p.m. Monday with a white Ford Crown Victoria behind her.

The victim said that the male turned on a rotating blue light that appeared to be on the dash. The victim believing that it was a law enforcement officer, pulled over and
stopped. At that time an unknown white male walked up to her driver’s door and attempted to open it. The victim then drove off and called law enforcement when she arrived home.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’11”, 200 pounds, brown hair and possibly in his mid-30’s. He was wearing blue jeans, black bomber style jacket and motorcycle gloves.

Anyone who has information regarding this case is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP (7867).

I think he looks Mexican, and I believe he has been in the Tom Thumb on the corner of 97 and Hwy. 29 before when I was there a few weeks ago.

Sorry Leslie, I agree with Dallasmommy and NotAgain that the sketch looks so Asian, it is almost a caricature.

To “notagain” and “dallasmommy”………I don’t see where this photo depicts any certain type person except that is appears to be a male. It’s simply looks like a penciled, black and white sketch.
I think the concern should be that this person is caught and hope that he doesn’t have a chance to harm anyone.

I did some research and found an old picture of this same person who was doing this before. So someone has seen this man somewhere. If you see him again or think you do, please tell the dispatcher this is the second time you saw him. Also, use the crimestoppers phone line and report any information anonymously if you don’t want to give them your name.

Please carry a cell phone with you if you travel at night. You can even get a free one from the state for emergency use. All cell phone work for 911 calls even if you are out of minutes. Call 911 and ask the dispatcher to notify the officer that you are looking for a sfe place to pull over.

A couple of years ago someone in a white crown vic was attempting to pull women over . It happened several times in this same area and in the northern side of escambia. Same story… This sketch even looks similar. I remember because 1 morning I was bringing my son to school, and I saw a white crown vic pulled on the side of Hwy 97. His car was posed as a cop uses a radar. When I returned home, I called the escambia county sheriff’s phone line listed above, and the lady that answered did not seem interested. She had no enthusiasm. ” There’s alot of white crown vics out there… We are getting so many calls about this” she said. I got the feeling that the police were not going to follow up.

There are to many unmarked police vehicles ( Trucks, Suvs, and many makes of cars) with no markings on them at all —-that’s why this can happen.

in addition to my earlier comment…my very smart wife suggests activating your emergency flashers to let the police behind you know you are aware of their presence.

Just so everyone knows…you don’t have to pull over when a MARKED law enforcement car wants to stop you at night until you are able to pull into a well lighted area (unless you are presenting a danger as a driver…ie…drunk driver, felony eluding, ect). Just to be safe though, use your cell phone and call 911 and let them know what you are doing. They will notify the officer attempting to pull you over and this will avoid all kinds of misunderstanding with that officer. They, like us, believe in safety first.

This sounds like the same person that was doing this a couple of years ago on nine mile road.

Dont stop for unmarked cars!!! Dont speed up or try to lose them, call 911 or the sheriffs office dispatch and make sure they have a cop running behind you. You dont have to stop until a marked vehicle joins the unmarked. Its for your safety. Never stop on the side of a dark road for a unmarked car either. If you dont feel safe a call to whatever agency that covers that area will cover your butt.

Yeah I agree with notagain if he’s white why does the drawing look like an oriental guy

  13. NotAgain on March 1st, 2012 9:04 am

“white male”? Then why does the police drawing suggest a man of oriental descent?

Neighbor: I was thinking the exact same thing.

Thank the good Lord this woman had courage and sense enough to drive away and report it.

Does this sketch look like the one from a few years back when this same thing was happening? I don’t recall them ever finding that guy.
