Century Man Charged After Gun Fired In Nightclub

March 15, 2012

A Century man is facing charges after he allegedly accidentally fired his gun in a crowded Pensacola nightclub.

Christopher Torrey, 19, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and culpable negligence in connection with the incident at the Platinum Club on North Palafox Street.

According to the Pensacola Police Department, Torrey had the gun in his shorts pocket because he had heard there would be some kind of trouble at the club. He told deputies that he heard a gunshot and realized he was bleeding from his hand. Officers said it appeared he had fired the gun by accident from the pocket of his shorts, with the gun slide injuring his hand. Torrey said it was possible that he fired the gun, but he did not admit to pulling the trigger.

A 26-year old female inside the club was apparently struck on the left knee by the bullet as it ricocheted from the  floor. She was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.

Pensacola Police reported recovering the gun from Torrey’s shorts and the bullet from the floor of the club.

One area that has always had good ECSD coverage is Pensacola Beach. I remember back in the early 80s that island would get pretty wild. We would seak our bush wackers out the bar, heading to the next one. We would be walking having a good old time, when out of the doorway would step ECSD Deputy Kevin Harris, all spit shine, starched and polished. We would just empty our drinks right there on the curb and say Kevin how are you this evening sir. He would say youal be careful and have a good night. A good LE precence goes a long way in maintaining order, in our night time entertainment venues.

This is why experts advise not carrying a pistol too close to your own crotch.

not that it isn’t tempting for some

I have large hands and favor the John Browning single action auto design of the Colt 1911A1 Government .45ACP. Its easy for me to just roll the hammer back with my thumb on that first shot. Most modern double action auto loaders have an ambidextrous trigger disconnect safety, near the hammer at the rear of the slide.

@century he has money?! He want do no time…. Kno dat? Haaaa learn some grammer son. First off, if you have to walk around with a gun you are what us folks in the country called a “coward”. Secondly, you have got to be a complete idiot to even step foot in a club where you feel your life is threatened to the point of carrying a gun. It’s people like @century and his idiot friend that waste our tax money feeding these clueless citizens in jail! I hope he gets jail time, he deserves it!

I agree with “curious”.. I carry a pistol for personal protection, and I do have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but I also believe that if you take a pistol into a bar, you are indeed looking for trouble.. Firearms and alcohol are a deadly combination.. If a bar is that rough, I won’t go there anyway.. We also have a rule at our hunting club that no alcohol is consumed until the day is done and the firearms are put away..

What is a “safe button?” Is that anything like the “easy” button in the TV ad? My Glock does not have a “safe button” but it does have a triple safety built into the trigger. In my opinion the real issue is somebody handling a firearm poorly, “safe button” or not. The slide on a semi-automatic handgun can hurt you if you don’t know how to handle it, or do so in an incorrect manner.

There is a such thing as a safe button. And next time point the other way..LOL.. AT A FUTURE CONCERT HAD TO BE FROM THE COUNTRY!

I agree w/ 1st person but also if you hear of something supposedly gonna happen, protect yourself & stay home or away from there unless you want to look for trouble.

I dnt blame him for having a gun in the club because anything could of happened. U have to b prepared to protect yourself. I bet he wasn’t the only one on the club with a gun. But I’m glad my bit is straight. He want do no time. He got plenty money and will get a good lawyer to help him beat this charge. Kno dat!

    Me-

I’m not saying you can obtain a permit to carry concealed if you are under 21. I’m simply stating that you can legally own a pistol if you are 18 or older. By the way, there is no such thing as gun registration in the state of Florida.

  13. Me on March 15th, 2012 10:15 am

In Florida you must be 21 to have a concealed permit in order to carry a pistol…Even if a gift, The gun can’t be registered to someone under 21 years of age.

If you heard there was going to be trouble at the club what about not going. Or is that to much like right?

  15. JM on March 15th, 2012 7:59 am

LOL sounds like there was trouble at the Club alright and he was it….

  16. Rogue on March 15th, 2012 7:34 am

“Hmm, 19 years old and has a pistol which you must be 21 to own. ”

Actually, you can own a handgun at 18 years of age. It can gifted to you or purchased through a private sell. However, you can’t buy one from a FFL dealer ( gun store ) unless you are 21 or older. Carrying one concealed is a different story.

Hmm, 19 years old and has a pistol which you must be 21 to own. Well at least there is a state owned bed and breakfeast in Century where he can be close to home as he does time.

I remember in the late 70s and early 80s, people would get shot, or cut, in some of the rural nightclubs around North Escambia and North Baldwin and nobody ever got arrested. A betadine swab, a sterile dressing and some electrical tape for the slashs, and a trip to Mobile or Atmore for the shootings and serious stabbings. The Wild Wild whatever days are over people. Leave that pistol and razor, knife what have you, at home. Best to stay out of Honky Tonks & Juke Joints. It seems that most of those places are a fusion of misery and the company it keeps.
