Jay Man Killed In High Speed Century Crash Thursday Night

February 24, 2012

A Jay man died in a single vehicle crash in Century Thursday night.

Jeffery Leonard Jackson, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6 p.m. crash on Old Flomaton Road north of Campbell Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jackson was northbound on Old Flomaton Road at an extremely high rate of speed. His 1994 Nissan left the roadway, at which time Jackson applied the brakes and skidded along the grass and dirt shoulder. The front of the vehicle then struck a large oak tree and came to an abrupt stop.

Jackson, according to the FHP, was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Century Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Flomaton Volunteer Fire Department, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

I will always miss you Jeff! Sorry for hurting you, you always let me know how you still loved me. It breaks my heart that you had such a sweet soul. And went back down the wrong path. No matter what anyone else thinks of me, I still cared about you! I can only imagine how hard your mom is suffering. She loves you all so much, unconditionally. I pray I’ll meet you again! I love you J.J. Walker Jackson :) Rest love in peace…..

Rita>>> We want to thank you for calling us. We were able to let the family know about Jeff instead of waking up to it this morning. Jeff was here around 6:00 last evening. He was the Jeff we all like to see drop in. He always says ” I just stopped to get some of Judy’s sweet tea”. He was not under the influence of anything. He was happy and left going toward his home outside of Jay. His mother is Eloise..brothers Ken and Randy…children Jeffery and Curtis..sister Sylvia..he has grandchildren…many nephews and neices..and lots of aunts and uncles and cousins. All of us will be affected by this and I can say that Jeff is already missed. Some of his friends and family are already here…sitting around telling storys’ and laughing and crying. We must keep all our comments uplifting. There is no need for any
other way. Pray for Jeffs’ family. RIP

To Liana L: What curve? The road is relatively straight where the wreck happened. Nothing dangerous about the roads. Prayers for the family.

This was Jeff Jackson his mom worked at vics cleaners in flomaton for years. I cant believe it.. i havent seen him i a few years but ive known him 20yrs. So sad prayers w/his family.

  20. Liana L. on February 24th, 2012 1:37 am

My Fiancé and I came upon the wreck about 9pm and saw how bad the car was mangled. That is a VERY DANGEROUS curve. I’m not sure how many people have struck that tree, but I imagine it’s been a few. I know there’s sped limit signs out, but the county needs to put up a curve sign or a that slow sharp curve ahead. I do understand the man was speeding but if there may have been something to warn a person of the curve this may been able to avoided. I also want to say that my family and I send our condolences for the family and will be thinking of them.
