No Injuries In School Bus Crash, 46 Students On Board

February 28, 2012

No injuries were reported in a school bus crash in Cantonment Tuesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an Escambia County School bus driven by Billie Jo Kaser, 41, of Cantonment was eastbound on Muscogee Road and stopped due to a red traffic light about 7:25 a.m.  That’s when, the FHP said, 24-year old Leah Danielle Hughes of Pensacola rear-ended the bus with her 2008 Suzuki car. Troopers said Hughes had turned her attention away from the roadway to her 2-year old child in the vehicle. Her car came to rest wedged under the bumper of the bus.

There were 46 students bound for Jim Allen Elementary School on the bus at the time of the crash.

There were no injuries.

Hughes was charged with careless driving.

How many more accidents are we going to have here at this intersection before they wise up and put in another red light.. I mean the answer to all other wrecks is a RED LIGHT according to most , so put another here from every direction and we’ll stop all accidents with more red lights. Because as this story shows accidents NEVER happen at red lights.

School buses are hard to see..They need to paint them a bright color and put flashing lights on them……Maybe then people will see them before it’s too late…..

Everyone needs to stop tail gating and give yourselves time to stop.
Rear ending someone is totally avoidable.

People really need to slow down. My son rides that bus and thank god no children were hurt. Nothing is more scary than receiving a call from the principle say your childs bus was involved in an accident this morning.
