Man Charged With Passing Stolen Check At Grocery Store

February 13, 2012

A Century man is facing felony charges for allegedly passing stolen checks at a Century grocery store.

Kenneth Erwin Heinz, 48, was charged with passing a forged instrument and grand theft. He remained in the Escambia County jail Monday with bond set at $10,000.

Heinz allegedly provided his  driver’s license and passed a check for $922.86 at the Food Giant on North Century Boulevard, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’ Office arrest report.  Late last year, the checks had been reported as stolen to the Flomaton Police Department by S&S Construction in Flomaton.

Heinz told deputies that he knew that check was stolen when he cashed it, and that he was paid $100. The Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the person that allegedly paid Heinz to cash the check as their investigation continues.

    The store in question cashes payroll checks up to $999.99…..or use to anyway. They have always cashed S.S. construction payroll until it was brought to their attention checks had been stolen. Because of the “highly intelligent “people that do this stupid kind of stuff the store has tightened up on check cashing period. But then again they aren’t a bank just your local grocery store.

    @Brandi
    Never feel sorry for a thief Brandi, there truely is NEVER an excuse.
    A THIEF if just someone who has no repect for others and will just
    take what they want when they want. Watch out or you just might
    be their next victim. Think about if it had been one of your checks,
    and they went to a Grocery Store and spent YOUR last $150.00 on
    THIER Groceries. WHAT ABOUT YOU AND YOURS.
    Oh well…it’s ok., he needed it…. YOURS CAN JUST STARVE, OR GET
    KICKED OUT If it was rent money.

    THIS GUY had all summer to grow a garden if he needed food.
    Thats what we did when my father wouldn’t work.

    I have no simpathy or respect for people who have none for others.

    You know, I might have had sympathy if it was for $150 worth of groceries for a struggling family, even though it still would’ve been wrong. But no, just another case of someone trying to steal what someone else has worked hard for.
