Man Charged With Choking Girlfriend To Death

February 24, 2012

An Escambia County man is behind bars today, charged with choking his girlfriend to death Thursday evening.

Kristopher Shawn Silas, age 36 of Garden Street, is being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond, charged with second degree murder.

Pensacola Police Department detectives James Gore and Chad Willhite determined Silas and his girlfriend – 40-year old Tammy Lynn Bigham –were arguing in their apartment  at the Carlton Palms condominiums at Alcaniz and Garden streets. The disagreement then escalated into a physical confrontation. Silas  called 911 around 5 p.m. and said he had choked his girlfriend, according to police.

Bigham died at the scene. A motive remains under investigation, and an autopsy is pending.

This was my Mama, I was her baby. 30 years in prison isn’t justice. I miss her so and had to live through my teenage years without her. So hard. Not fair. I miss our mother daughter traditions and talks!

I miss my Mom so much. Kris had threatened her life multiple times to killing her. I wish she had left him.

Tammy has been my best friend for the last 15 yrs. I knew her so well, and loved her deeply. She was a wonderful, loving, talented, fun person. We talked every week. I already miss her so much – my heart aches. I always believed Kris needed help, and now I’m sure of it. I know where she is, and I will get to see her again one day. Heaven has a beautiful new voice in the air.

every murder is an individual decision, not an attempt to fit a curve or reach a number

David for letting this be the last one

Yep, crime is down in Escambia County according to the bean counters. But is it really because if this is the pace there’ll be 30 plus murders this year.
