Glenn Austin Becomes 7th Candidate For District 5 Commission Seat

February 2, 2012

Candidate number seven has pre-filed for the Escambia County Commission District 5 seat.

Glenn Austin of Cantonment prefiled Monday as a Republican for the seat currently held by Republican Kevin White of Molino.

“The rule for effective governance is simple. When there is a problem, you fix it,” Austin said in announcing his candidacy. “Escambia County does not have a solid plan to bring a sustainable industry into this county that will create jobs. I fully realize the problem and am focused on becoming part of the solution.”

Austin, a political newcomer, now owns a small business in Escambia County. He formerly worked for WKRG TV 5 and was spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Ron McNesby.

In addition to Austin and White, Republicans Denanne Burkett, Sam Archer and Jim Taylor have pre-filed for the seat. Packy Mitchell and Dennis Wiggins have also announced, running with no party affiliation.

    District 5 citizen:
Apparently you see his boards, signs and you pass him enough out there to know he waives all the time. If you want a “message”…. Hello!!! It’s right there. This man takes his own personal time to get out in the public, morning, afternoon and night to waive and talk to people like you. Maybe instead of being so critical, you ought to stop and say hey to him. You might get a life lesson or two and get a “message” out of it. As far as money spent on a campaign, if somebody puts more money into it than they get back their first year on the job, there’s another “message” for you. He don’t care about the money making apparently. Looks like he might just be in it to help people like you and I in District 5. Sometimes a “message” is right out in front of us but we lose the ability to grasp it.

Last I heard People decide elections and not the amount of money you have. You MUST have a message. All I am seeing are billboards and signs and a man waving all the time on the side of the road. If I was running for a district position I would not put more money than you would make the first year into the campaign.

District 5 citizen : You can’t run a Big Campaign like Mr.Archer is without loaning yourself money. No need to judge someone on that, im sure you would be doing the same if you were running.

Check out who has the public support by financial contributions. Based on what I see Sam put $70,000 + of his own money into the race now he is paying himself back. I will have to be with most of the other people in district 5 and vote Jim Taylor

Will some one ask Mr White why he made a statement in a meeting that he did not worry about the north end, there is not enough votes up there anyway. Now if this is true does it sound like he works for all the people in his district .When he ran the last time he came up to the north end and that is the last time i have seen him. We do not ask for much just a fair shake like paving hwy 99. Spend a little of the tax money on other roads besides Molino where his support is. My vote and a lot of others will vote for Sam. And i think that a lot of people are getting in the race to stop Sam who is gaining support every day.

I do agree that there are way too may qualifing for District 5. It is going to split the vote and Kevin White will get back in the office. We see how much work he has done for D5 already. Do we really want another term of doing nothing for the north end?

Kathy – I am not sure which Kevin White you are talking about because the Kevin White for my area of D5 has done NOTHING for this area.

Please; No more should qualify for this position. We are going to split up the vote so bad that Mr White will probably go back in without any effort. I think anyone running would do as good as he has. It is time for all them to go.

Kevin White is the best man for the job! He hass never been exposed for the antic of the west siders. He has taken all the certifications which indicates his readiness and he works hard at being fair and honest. Give the man the job, Mr. White is the best prepared and works very hard for us up here in the boonies.
