Cantonment Man Gets 10 Years For Traffic Accident Manslaughter

A 21-year old Cantonment man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison in connection with a 2010 drug-related traffic homicide.
Phillip Michael Chevalier pleaded guilty Tuesday to manslaughter for the May 2010 death of Billy Beck III in a traffic crash on Chemstrand Road.
Beck, 23, was on Chemstrand Road just before midnight on May 6, 2010, when he was struck by at least three vehicles. Chevalier, identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as the driver of the first vehicle to strike Beck, fled the scene. Beck’s family maintained that foul play may have been involved in the crash; however there were few leads or witnesses, according to the FHP.
Witnesses told the FHP that Chevalier pulled off to the side of Chemstrand Road where Beck was standing. Chevealier pulled off after Beck handed him a bag of marijuana. Beck reached into the truck and tried to get the marijuana back, according to a witness’s affidavit. Chevalier continued to drive north on Chemstrand Road with Beck hanging on to the truck. He eventually fell off the vehicle and was hit by the vehicles.
In February 2011, Florida Highway Patrol investigators developed additional evidence that led to arrest warrants being issued for Chevalier for felony murder and leaving the scene of accident with death. Chevalier was arrested by U.S. Marshals in St. Johns County, Fla.
The drivers of the second and third vehicles to hit Beck were not charged.

Now wouldn’t it be silly to say, “My son’s in prison for killing another person but I’m not suffering about it because he’s guilty.”?
No matter what the cause of the loss, there is still loss. Any decent friends or family would be suffering with the question of what they could have done to have avoided the development of this situation in the first place. Assuming he has some good characteristics, they would be suffering for the loss of his company. In fact if anyone were dependent on him for any reason, they would be suffering for the loss of whatever he provided.
If you do wrong things, you make others suffer –including, but not limited to, your own kin.

I think this all so very sad! No matter what the reason was this shouldnt have happend now someone lost there life and someone is going to prison for 10 years!Young adults dont think before there actions all we can do is pray for all the families and friends involed this is so very sad and my heart gose out the each and every person may god be with yall all!
Only one family should be suffering here and that’s the family that lost a child…The other family may feel hurt because their son is going to prison but at least he’s still alive and he will be reunited with his family in a few short years…

You are a KILLER!!!!!!! Plea Bargain Sucks but it is better than nothing, I am a person who speaks my mind, I tell like it is. There is people who dont like that I DONT CARE. I am truly sorry to say this what I also blame his family. You see I’m a Mother who loves her children as well and would go to the end of the world for them but when it comes to killing someone or hurting a child I would not be able to live with myself knowing that. I would have turned my own child in. I know that my child would understand in time. But there is heartless people living here on this earth. Just look around and you can see. You life and family is ruined only for a short time. You see when you killed Billy you also killed his family rather you know it not. Think hard about that if you have a heart which you dont Phillip. I want to Thank people who has supported and prayed for this family. That means alot to us. I want to Thank the people who showed up for us as well as you Billy. Its ashame that his last friends from Cantonment did not even go to the trial yesterday. Not even 1. I dont even know if his so call girlfriend even told them. It was not my place to doae so since they are no longer friends of my son nor his family. Your lose not mine. I want to thank the Florida Highway Patrol and the State Attorney for listening to me. My sons cased was closed 2 times but was reopened when it was needed. I am a Mother who was not going to let this case fade away. I am proud to say that we made this happen for Billy where we were about to get a little closure. We will never have Justice but Jesus will have the right to do it his way. Phillip, I hope your babies mother opens her eyes and see how heartless you really are. The only thing I can say to her is that the kind of person you want you child to be around. Its time you think of your child and not you. People will only know what they read. This family know the rest and certain people will know everything.
