Rash Of Molino Vehicle Burglaries Under Investigation

January 30, 2012

A series of vehicle burglaries late last week in the Molino area are under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

About a dozen vehicles were broken into at homes across the Molino area overnight Wednesday and Thursday with the owners reporting the burglaries on Thursday and Friday. No additional vehicle burglaries were reported during the weekend in the area.

At one home on Highway 95A, a resident reported that three vehicles — all unlocked — were burglarized at his home sometime Thursday night.  He reported that a .357 revolver, Oakley sunglasses, Nikon binoculars and wallet were missing. Other items — including knives and GPS units — were reported stolen from other vehicles around the area.

Deputies are encouraging residents to lock their vehicles.

So far, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has not reported any leads on the vehicle burglaries. Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or CrimeStoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

The vehicle burglaries were reported on Highway 95A near Kemala Avenue and Brickton Road, Barrineau Park Road near Schifko Road, Barrineau Park Road near Blueberry Lane, Youngwood Lane near Red Fern Road and Schifko Road near Barrineau Park Road.

I know this sounds crazy but. For a little bit of money and set a camera with an alert on ur property. 2 if needed, it will alert you when there is movement, the druggies have got to be stopped coming on others properties and taking things that dont belong to them.

Sooner or later they will hit the wrong car or house. Surprise

Lyn – Thanks for the plug of the Mid County Neighborhood Watch group! It is amazing the information that can be learned from attending these meetings. As everyone knows hindsight is 20/20 and when you become a victim it is a lesson you will not forget. I’m so thankful there were no injuries involved in these burglaries. I urge all to attend the Mid County Neighborhood meeting which includes the areas of Barrineau Park and Molino. 4th Monday of each month at 6:30pm at Aldersgate Methodist Church. Let’s take back our community before it gets worse crime wise!

No revenue in catching thieves or protecting property; more money in working radar and traffic enforcement.

We need to depend on ourselves and our neighbors, we are on our own, it appears.

I agree with Jane on her comments & wonder if the thieves have moved north to Hwy.97 in the Davisville area? A few weeks ago William reported about a white pick-up truck in that area where the man stayed in the truck over-night & the tempature drop below freezing & He ended up in the hospital. I hope the man is doing well because today when I pass his truck his lumber was gone & the windows smashed. Guess these thieves have NO Heart or feelings at all!!!

Just an FYI there have been reports of a white van with some blue paint on it cruising around cantonment and north of cantonment with a group of men they have been seen at a local store and were trying to get in police were called and of course they were long gone and police said there was not much they could do they have been seen several times since that–it seems like a lot of stuff is going on up this way lately I want to feel safe at least in my home– not so much anymore I truly help ESCO will start looking out for us up here. But in the meanwhile we need to look out for ourselves —-bang bang

happened in our neighborhood a few years back and I sure did learn 2 lessons: I keep nothing of value in my car and lock the doors every time I get out of it. Haven’t thought about anybody messing with anything around my house in a while until just recently when we had something come up missing from our yard sad thing about in our case we think it was kids just can’t prove it, you know times are bad when you have to worry about your stuff in your own yard !!

    Lynn,
Why just their butt’s full of lead? They will be going to see the County Medical Examiner if I catch them at my house.

My Family has ALSO been “bitten” by a Low Down, Worthless, Sorry Piece of Dirt, Good for Nothing, Evidently Too Lazy To Work, THIEF !!!
I own a small home on Hwy 95A (Meharg Rd Area)….Thursday, the 26th, (DURING THE DAY) between the hours of 7:00am & 4:30 pm, In The Rain ….My Air Conditioning Unit WAS STOLEN. It appears that the THIEF backed right up to it, cut the Line, Loaded it up, and (i figure) Headed straight to the Scrap Yard.
It makes me Sick to my stomach, knowing that Some Low Life out there, thinks that I have Worked hard over all of these years So They Can Come STEAL From Me !!?? I THINK NOT. I share the same feelings as Most All Americans …Come Back Around MY HOUSE and I’ll Give you Some Metal. It Won’t Be that pretty COPPER color, tho.

My gas has been stolen for months now. Placed a lock on my gas tank and they broke it. Have told the police. All they say is we will ride by.

  17. bonnie on January 30th, 2012 10:38 am

about three week ago someone burst the lock on gmc van. we was watching tv. i turn on lights outside did not see no one

  18. nudo on January 30th, 2012 9:33 am

National crime rate for molino is 227. The national average is 100. Wake up people!

  19. Marshall on January 30th, 2012 9:07 am

Its easy to tell people what they should have done when it wasn’t you. We typically lock our vehicles, but I have never had anything stolen before and sometimes we forget to lock them. We grew complacent and were bitten. We learned our lesson at a high price, but not as high a price as somebody will pay if I catch them stealing from me again.

  20. just me on January 30th, 2012 8:59 am

my work truck was locked up but 3 weeks ago someone cut the line going to my gas tank and took all my gas. About $90.00 of gas plus the repair. this was in the same area, HWY 29 and molino rd. I did make a police rport on it but dont really think it will do any good.

  21. Lynn Hoskins on January 30th, 2012 8:42 am

that is a very dangerous sport. If they come onto my property at night, they may get a butt full of lead!!!!

  22. Jane on January 30th, 2012 7:26 am

You are correct! It is best not to leave anything of value in your vehicles! If you can put them in the garage (and lock them) that is better. There is only so much you can do. As my Dad used to tell me, “locks are for honest people, but they slow the thieves down a bit”. Remember, if they get in your garage they can use your tools to break into the house…yours or someone else’s, so lock any doors leading to the house too! Look at escambiaso.com for more tips on how to be safe.

  23. Lawson Berry on January 30th, 2012 5:38 am

Jane: I heard that some of the vehicles were locked. The thieves just broke the windows. Now the folks have a burglerized vehicle and broken windows. I’m with you, though, I believe in locking your vehicles. Best case scenerio is don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. (My personal opinion, of course)

  24. Jane on January 30th, 2012 4:50 am

I wonder how many burgleries would have been prevented if people had just locked their vehicles? Crimes of opportunity are one of the first things the Neighborhood Watch teaches you to help prevent. Don’t leave vehicles unlocked, garage doors and sheds open, things in the yard that can be carried off. Yes, I know, it seems that people should be honest. But human nature being what it is, many are not honest, and there are drugs in the area and high unemployment. Both of these lead to more crime, whether the thieves live close by or not. There is a Mid County Neighborhood Watch group that meets every 4th Monday at 6:30pm at Aldersgate Church. Everyone is welcome! You may be surprised at what you learn to help prevent this sort of thing.
