Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Molino Couple’s Vehicle On Hwy 29

January 29, 2012

A Molino couple’s vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian on Highway 29 Saturday night in Pensacola.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 47-year old Johanna L. Kenney of Pensacola was walking along the west shoulder of Highway 29 approaching Hood Drive, near the Ensley Walmart, about 9:25 p.m.

A 2002 GMC Sierra driven by 68-year old  John C. Marshall of Molino was traveling south in the southbound outside lane of Highway 29. That’s when Kenney left the west shoulder of the road and walked into the southbound lanes of Highway 29 and into the path of Marshall’s vehicle.

Kenney was pronounced dead on the scene. Marshall and his passenger, 62-year old Nancy P. Marshall, were not injured.

No charges have been filed in the accident, but it remains under investigation, according to the FHP.

The Ensley Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.

To the family of Johanna Kenney: My condolences to you all during your time of bereavement. I pray that God grants you the strength courage and peace to get through the days to come. 2 young men that attend my church were the first on the scene to offer any help for Mrs. Kenney. They prayed with her and were with her when she passed away. Mr. Samuel Willis I noticed your post stating she was your sister. Please be encouraged and know that God is with you all.

    TO THE FAMILY OF JOHANNA:
While it is so hard and heart wrenching to loose your loved one in such a sudden tragic accicent, it is actually a blessing in disguise… so many people suffer sick and in pain, day after day for months, even years before The Lord calls them home. Please call Jesus to be close to you now. In doing so, you are bringing Johanna close also.
May God bless you and comfort you. May he give you peace and wisdom.

My prayers go put to all those involved in this tradegy.

I have driven that part if 29 a lot and it is extremely dark right there. There have been more deaths it seems in just that part of 29. Perhaps more lighting would help there.

My prayers go out to the families of the pedestrian and the couple in the vehicle. I know the pedestrian, Jodi is what her family and friends call her. She was full of life, loved her three sons, loved Bear (her companion), and God.
    Jodi will be sorely missed.

So sorry for the families involved. The poor couple who hit the pedestrian must be so shaken! And I feel so sorry for the family of the pedestrian.

It makes me nervous to pass someone who is walking or riding bikes beside the roads, you never know when they may step or veer over from the shoulder of the road. Just a few days ago on Hwy 4 someone in a “power scooter” was driving down the shoulder toward me. There was also a Semi truck coming at me in the other lane. I said a silent prayer that the truck wouldn’t swerve or that the person on the power scooter wouldn’t either. It could have been a terrible incident. I didn’t think those power scooters were allowed on the road.

My heart goes out to the couple as they are pretty distraught over the whole situation. I am also sorry to the family and friends of the victim and am praying for everyone involved. This lady was in all black which people PLEASE if you are going to walk the side of a road or cross a road, especially one with such traffic as 29, PLEASE wear a vest, or LIGHT colored clothes so that you could be seen or cross at a red light when oncoming traffic is stopped! This is a horrible situation all the way around! I am praying for all who were involved.

I am not sure that any amount of bright clothing would have helped her. The article states that she walked into the path of Marshall’s vehicle.

My condolences to the family of the deceased.

People need to stay off of the roads. On my way home from work two nights ago I almost hit a woman on 29 because she was walking in the middle of the right lane straight towards my car. She was also dressed in dark colors. I had to quickly swerve into the left lane almost hitting another car in the process. It’s too dangerous at night. So sorry to the families for their loss!

This is so sad. Please, when you are walking at night, wear light colored jackets or shirts so you can easily be seen. I see people walking/riding bicycles at night dressed in dark clothing with no lights or reflectors on the bikes. This may not have happened in this case, but a lot of times you can’t see the person until they are just a few feet away in the dark. Vehicles are lethal to pedestrians and bike riders…help us out and make yourself visable at night! No one wants to hit you!
