One Injured In State Line Road Wreck

January 22, 2012

One person was injured in a single vehicle accident Saturday morning in Century.

The accident happened about 10:25 a.m. on State Line Road near Highway 29. The driver of a 1992 Chevrolet truck failed to negotiate a curve on State Line Road, struck a power pole guy wire and traveled up a steep embankment toward Highway 29.

A passenger in the pickup, 42-year old Cynthis Taylor of Atmore, was transported by ambulance to Jay Hospital with minor injuries. Another person in the pickup, John Taylor, age 54 of Flomaton, was not injured.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle was unknown due to no witnesses to the crash.

The Century and McDavid stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.

That is an interesting law not being able to charge someone in a case like this. Very interesting indeed.

The article said…the passenger was transported by ambulance…duh that leaves only one more..guess he was a PASSENGER too ? Come on now….he was barely standing at the rear of the truck for the camera….get real….look at the picture !!

    REGARDING:
“Isn’t it at Hwy. 4A and 29 close to the Piggly Wiggly in Century?”

County Road 4A starts just north of West Highway 4, goes out past Backwoods Road, makes a hard left at the intersection of State Line Road, another fairly hard left at Highway 168, then goes back to Byrneville Crossroads.

If you took the right at State Line Road, it would go past the funeral home and do a hard right at the US 29 overpass, go past Food Giant and stop at the base of the overpass.

    David for clarity

Isn’t it at Hwy. 4A and 29 close to the Piggly Wiggly in Century? Well, it’s now Food Giant, I think.

    >>>>>>Ahahahahah he said Hwy 29 and it’s Hwy 99!

What are you talking about? The wreck had nothing to do with Hwy 99??? it was not even close

“According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle was unknown due to no witnesses to the crash.”

So, based on this, if someone had been struck and killed, no one would be charged because there was no witness?

    Ludicrous.

If they won’t say who was driving, could they be charged with interfering or hindering an investigation?

So , let me get this straight. If I decide to get drunk and drive with a friend present and we have a wreck,as long as neither myself nor my friend knows who was driving no arrest can be made? Thats crazy. No wonder we have so many drunks driving around here.

In Florida, if a law enforcement officer suspects someone is the driver of a vehicle and suspects that they are under the influence, the alleged driver can’t be charged with DUI unless an independent witness sees the person behind the wheel. It does not matter how many times the suspected under the influence person *admits* to being the driver. The driver of the vehicle is then listed as “unknown”.

I think they couldn’t determine which of the two involved was driving?? kinda suspicious i think..if one doesn’t confess they should both be charged

  12. Kim on January 22nd, 2012 8:12 am

That makes no sense at all! If there were 2 passengers in that truck how in the World could the driver of the truck be unknown???

    @Everett
    My sentiments exactly.
I re-read this article 4 times thinking I was missing something.

I’m thinking if there were no driver we should at the very least confiscate
that truck for the DEA because that truck must have been on drugs and
driving around carelessly with two people in it.

Our LEO’S should never have to put up with these drunken or drugged
out trucks on week ends and cleaning up the messes they leave.

BIG OLE TRUCK LIKE THAT SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!
    LOL

It looks like the “unknown” driver tried to leave the scene by the left rear tire being buried.. I wonder if either one of them was legal?

  15. WELL on January 22nd, 2012 7:39 am

    Sounds pretty easy everett,

Two drunks were driving down the road, they missed the curve and wrecked. Neither new where they were much less which one of them was driving.( I mean who was driving). LEO’S had to buy the story because no one else witnessed the oops.

Okay, glad no one was hurt badly.

  16. Safebear on January 22nd, 2012 7:32 am

If it is not obvious who the driver is, no matter who says they were driving no one can be charged. If they wrote a ticket and the person receiving the ticket went to court to challenge it, if the LEO that wrote the ticket can not say without a doubt who was driving the case would be thrown out.

This happens a lot when a driver who has a suspended license or something is involved and a legal driver is in the vehicle. No witnesses, minor injuries and both people are out of the vehicle the legal driver will many times say they were driving. It can’t be proved so no charges.

Hope this helps – (I am not an LEO but have dealt with this in a previous career.)

The bible does say one will leave…and one will be left behind…it did not mention the the one leaving here would be by ambulance I think ?? One thing for sure…the one left behind is standing proudly by the truck…Wonder who owns the vehicle ?

“According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle was unknown due to no witnesses to the crash.”

Maybe I just missed this in the story but it is a single vehicle accident. There is no witnesses but we have 2 persons in the truck (one injured) who didn’t see anything either. The driver must have just vaporized or we have had the second coming of christ.

A little help on this one please.
