Former Walnut Hill Resident Dies In Louisiana ATV Crash

January 9, 2012

A former Walnut Hill resident died Sunday in a Louisiana crash involving a pickup and the ATV on which he was riding.

According to the Louisiana State Police, 36-year old Phillip Burt Victor Jr. of Wisner, LA,  died in the crash about 9:30 a.m. in Harrisonburg, LA.

According to troopers, the crash was between a 1999 Ford pickup, driven by 48-year-old David W. Carroll of Grayson, LA, and an ATV driven by 42-year-old William R. McKenzie of Wisner. Troopers said the ATV and the Ford were traveling in opposite directions when they collided on Old Columbia Road near Louisiana Highway 124.  Following the crash, the pickup ran over the top of the ATV and overturned. Both vehicles caught on fire.

Victor and McKenzie were both ejected from the ATV and were pronounced dead on the scene. The pickup driver was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

Victor was a 1995  Ernest Ward High School graduate. Funeral arrangements at Petty Funeral Home in Atmore are incomplete.

No nasty comments please. They do not need to outlaw 4 wheelers people just need to follow the laws that are supposed to make these safer. ( Do not drive them down public roads. ) My brother and his friend died from an accident but it was avoidable. Fussing now will not bring him back. He died doing what he loved best. Hunting. My family appreciates everyone for caring for Jr. He was very loved and will be missed. My life will never be the same without him.

Now we are dealing with the funeral costs. We have to bury him as it was his wishes. Petty funeral Home is being very good to us but with it being his business he can not do this for free. Everyone that knew and loved Jr and can help out no matter if it is pocket change or whatever. We have to get this taken care of so we can give him his last wishes.

What a tragedy, I hope people are generous and help this family with the burden of bureal expenses. A comment to Ernistine, lets outlaw four wheelers, and while we are at it, outlaw trucks, cars, planes, biking, walking, eating, drinking, ladders, and anything else that sometimes causes unfortunate and untimely deaths
