January 8, 2012

A Cantonment convenience store was robbed Saturday night by a man that beat the clerk with a handgun.

The holdup alarm came in about 10:35 p.m. at the CMP Food Mart at the corner of North Highway 29 and Beck’s Lake Road.

A black male dressed in all black entered the store about 10:35 p.m., jumped over the counter and tried to get into the register. When he was unable to open the register, he beat the clerk with the gun to force him to open the cash drawer. The bandit then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The clerk was transported by Escambia County EMS to a Pensacola hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies set up a perimeter and a K-9 unit was called to the scene to search for a suspect., but deputies were unable to locate him.  Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

You have more than 2. There are between 4 and 5 deputies patrolling up here until past midnight.

The problem is not enough deputies patrolling our area. We need more than 2 deputies patrolling this end of the county past 3 pm. The law enforcement support out here is lacking – we need some big changes out here. The focus is always on Pensacola and we get left out – there are more crimes and drugs being ran out here because the criminials know they can get a way with it.

Get a Neighborhood watch group started! They work! The ESCO will be happy to help! Contact David Craig at 436-9620, and he will help you get started! If you want lower crime rates we all have to pitch in!

What is happening to our community I don’t even want to go outside anymore after dark. But I will do whatever I have to to protect my home and my family against these disgusting low life people. I am sick of it.

Sounds like maybe everyone in The Village needs to come together to start a very active neighborhood watch program. I hate your neighborhood is going through that and my prays are with everyone there.

there has been numerous attempts of someone trying to get elderly people in the surrounding area to open their doors after dark. they ring the door bells frantically or beat on the doors. People are talking guns and security cameras here in the village!!!
