Deer Blamed For Highway 97 Wreck That Injured Two

January 30, 2012

A deer is being blamed for a traffic crash on Highway 97 in Davisville Sunday night.

The driver of a Ford Focus collided with the deer about 6:20 p.m. while southbound on Highway 97 south of Meadows Lane at Mike’s Ag Air Airport. The three people in the vehicle were not injured.

The driver of a motorcycle lost control while southbound on Highway 97 as he saw and attempted to avoid the deer that had just been hit by the Ford Focus. Both the driver and a female passenger on the motorcycle were ejected. They were transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital in stable condition.

Both accidents are under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Atmore Ambulance and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.

The deer did not survive the collision with the Ford Focus.

When is EVERY state going to let peole get rid of so many deer by extending the season, especially on does. They are totalling vehicles and insurance companies are having to pay for that; they are killing people on the interstates.
The next time you travel I-65 look at the dead deer by the roadside where cars have hit them so a fence doesn’t stop them. Only by killing more will be survive ourselves. It is so dangerous to go anyplace now day or night. We all need to wirte Fish & Wildlife agencies and voice our opinion – our representatives in congress could care less. All they want is a paycheck with a retirement hung on it. i’M GOING TO START WRITING LETTERS AND NEED HELP WITH IT ALSO.

WOW…I known what everyone means, just lastnight on I-65 Southbound I passed 2 big bucks, at least 10points, Made me slow down to about 50mph. My heart dropped because they were so close to edge of the road. This time of the year drivers are watching eachother as well as what might be lurking in the dark waiting to jump out at you. Our PRAYERS are with all involed in this wreck. Best wishes too in this accient.

There are electronic devices that repel deer. I am not sure how effective they are during the rut, but I know people in Michigan use them and they seem to cut down the number of accidents with deer there.

Each year there are many deer related accidents that damage cars and injure people. It seems someone would come up with a way to minimize this. Opportunity knocks if anyone out there wants a business opportunity!

Thanks for the prayers for the bikers, J.R. Rigby and Ann Rolin. They are two of my best friends and very loved by this community & always doing things for children and just being awesome friends. JR has awful road rash on his face-it is black as if he were burned and an awful black eye that is just a slit and also re-injured his knee that was already in bad shape. Ms Ann has road rash on her nose, wrists, leg. I’m so grateful they are ok. According to them there were 2 deer, the one that ran out in front of the Focus and another one ran in front of J.R.’s Sportster. They were going to take one of the deer themselves but someone else got it! They thank everyone for the prayers!!

I hope the animal was’nt wasted. Someone could have had lots of free meat from that un-fortunate encounter. Sure hope the bikers are ok.

You are both, NF and ROOT, correct. A deer ran into the path of my daughter-in-law’s car last night. She was leaving Molino, going to Robersdale. This is a scary time of year to be driving at night.

Deer do move at night year round, but right now while in rut is worse. Had someone hit a deer by the house Saturday night. Deer left and truck was fine, but you certainly have to be careful!!! Hope all from this incident will be okay.
