Asleep At The Wheel: FHP Arrests Century Man On Drug Charges

January 6, 2012

A Century man is behind bars on drug charges after authorities found him asleep behind the wheel at a red light on Fairfield Drive in Pensacola.

Akino Jama Jackson, 19, was charged with felony drug possession without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a valid license by the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to an arrest report, a Circle K clerk alerted the FHP that a vehicle had sat through several green cycles of a stop light on Fairfield Drive without moving. A trooper discovered Jackson and his passenger asleep with the car in drive and Jackson’s foot on the brake. The trooper shook him to wake him up, at which time Jackson said he had taken two doses of NyQuil prior to leaving Century. As Jackson stood up, an alprazolam fell onto the ground from his lap, the arrest report states.

A K-9 was called to the scene to search and quickly alerted on the vehicle. Authorities located a scale with cocaine residue.

Jackson remained in the Escambia County Jail early Friday morning with bond set at $4,500.

A.J. it is time to listen. Your mother and family members are praying for you. No one wants to see you go down the wrong path. Change your thinking and seek wise counsel by listening not everyone wants to hurt you nor can you continue to blames others for your mistakes. Sometimes the fight is in you, and not the people who are around you. Your grandparents and mother are known as hard workers and they are tyring to make a impact in your life, but when will you take their hand and meet them at least half way.

    REGARDING:
“They can’t hold him down forever ”

True. Before you know it, he’ll be back on the roads, maybe awake, maybe not, probably still without a license or insurance. We all hope nobody will be killed or hurt at that time.

    David ever hopeful

Maybe he needs this. Don’t free someone who is going to continue on doing wrong things. Jail should straighten him up some. If not, then why continue on trying to help him. He needs to know how to help hrimself. Time to grow up.

I sure hate that. I know aj from a distance he is a nice kid who is headed down a bad road. I’m not bashing him like some cause you never know this could be your kid. I heard a young man make a comment once that there lots of money to be made in dope, thank God he realizes what consequences are. I hope aj gets into a good program that can help him choose a better direction because he still has a lot of good in him. Aj find a new path before this one swallows you into a place of no return. Deuces

I went to school with this guy and it’s just horrible to see people like him that does this crap. Yes he did take D.A.R.E. in school, but apparently didn’t learn a THING. I hope that this will teach him a lesson, and will teach everyone else that is stupid like him a lesson as well.

some people never learn but i guess hes figured it out its better to commit a felony than a misdamenor less time or at least thats what it seems

  14. why?? on January 6th, 2012 11:41 am

Yes they can charge you with a dui!! I happen to know someone that was asleep in the var and it was parked and not even on the road and they got a dui and had a good attorney and didn’t beat it! So why give him a break he could have killed someone.

  15. Terri Sanders on January 6th, 2012 11:29 am

They couldn’t charge him with DUI! The car was not moving!!!LOL!

  16. why?? on January 6th, 2012 9:16 am

Dang he just got out this week on other charges and he’s on probation why does he even got a bond? Yeah what about a dui?

  17. DJC#13 on January 6th, 2012 8:49 am

Young man, get it together before you hurt yourself or someone else. I have been in your shoes. Leave the drugs alone and find a better interest.

  18. Scott on January 6th, 2012 8:45 am

C’mon guys, it sounds like he just has a real bad cold…and an anxiety disorder.

  19. Jerrold Ware-Ehlers on January 6th, 2012 8:31 am

Sounds like someone should have stayed awake during D.A.R.E. week at school.
Then they wonder why that don’t have anything in life. People would rather spend thier money on drugs. Officer I’m sorry didn’t realize I was sleeping at a red light with my car in drive and the foot on the brake…Can we say not the sharpest knife in the drawer!!! Thank God no one was injured because of his irresponsibility.

At age 19, you are too young for this life. No age is good for drugs or alocohol. Get in a good bible base church, get a job and liive a more productive life. I wish you the best!
