Escambia County’s September Students Of The Month Named

Escambia County Students of the Month for September have been named by the Escambia Association for Administrators in Education. The awards are presented monthly to two students from participating schools.

The following students were named from participating North Escambia area schools:

Century Candidates Report Little Campaign Cash

The latest campaign finance reports are in for Century’s October general election from candidates for mayor and two council seats. And for most candidates, it’s campaigning on the cheap so far.

Mayor

To date, incumbent Mayor Freddie McCall has raised $2,973 in cash and $498 of  in-kind contributions. McCall has made loans totaling $2,973 to his own campaign and reused $498 worth of campaign signs from his last campaign. No other individuals or  businesses had contributed to his campaign as of the last report date.  His expenditures include $1,504 to Bill Salter Outdoor Advertising for billboards and artwork, $528 to a Brewton company for brochures and political cards and $175 for a sign for his truck tailgate.  For McCall’s complete report, click here.

During the last reporting period of September 3-16, challenger Henry J. Hawkins received no contributions and spent nothing. Through the reporting period, Hawkins has received $300 in contributions and spent $263.04, mostly on his qualification fee. For Hawkins’ complete report, click here.

Council, Seat 1

Incumbent Ann Brooks received no contributions and spent nothing on her campaign during the last reporting period. To date her campaign has received $140 in donations and $450 of in-kind contributions in the form of signs from the last election. She has only spent $48; that was for her qualifying fee. Challenger  Pamela MacArthur also received no donations and made no expenditures during the last campaign finance reporting period. To date, she has made a $48 loan to her own campaign that she spent on her qualifying fee and received $23 of in-kind donations from herself in the form of self-made business cards and fliers. Council, Seat 2

Incumbent Annie Carter Savage received $280 in contributions during the last reporting period, including local contributions ranging from $10 to $75 from Azula C. Johnson, Charlie J. Spencer, Sr., Leola Robinson, Debra Smiley and Lloyd Savage. During the period, she reported expenditures of $194 to a Jay company for campaign signs and $145 in gas from Southern Pit Stop in Century. Challenger Evelyn Hammond received $100 during the reporting period — $50 from Tammy Lowery of Century and $50 from  Edward R. Hammond, Century’s gas department supervisor. Eileen Evelyn Robinson

September 26, 2011

Eileen Evelyn Robinson, age 68 of Cantonment, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 25, 2011. Mrs. Robinson was a member at Northview Baptist Church. Eileen was a retired bartender at the Red Baron and a member of the American Legion #340.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Mildred Norton; a grandson, Jason Grace; and two brothers, Bud and Howard Norton.

Eileen is survived by three daughters, Candyce Robinson, Sandi Thorsen (James), and Mandy Parker (James); two sons, Randy Robinson (Sheri) and Andy Robinson; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Donald Owen; an aunt, Beverly Barber; sisters-in-law Dot Norton and Kandy Tolbert; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; and many friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 Hwy 29, with Reverend Keith Mott officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011, from 5 until 7 p.m.

William C. Marshall

September 26, 2011

William C. Marshall, 74 of Huxford, died Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Mobile.

He retired from Monsanto in 1993 and from Jefferson Davis Community College as an A/C instructor. He was born in Escambia County (Ala.) on January 1, 1937.

He is preceded in death by his parents S. Jack and Berline Driskell Marshall. Survivors are his wife, Shirley Dreadin Marshall; one son, Stan Marshall and wife  Diane of Huxford; two daughters, Janice Carlton and husband Jim of Canoe, and Annise Bruley and husband Chris of Atmore; one brother, J.C. Marshall and wife Leitha of Canoe; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at 10  a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jesse Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Monday evening, September 26, 2011, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Theodore G. “Ted” White

September 26, 2011

Theodore G. “Ted” White, age 79, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011.

Ted retired from Monsanto after 31 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an air traffic controller, valuing that time of his life greatly. He was an avid golfer, being known to “shoot his age” quite frequently.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James J. and Edna Haynes Noel; sister, Jane Bouler.

Ted is survived by his four children, Noel Anthony (Abby) White of Texas, Toby White of Chumuckla, Wendy (Thomas) Watts of Atmore, and Tracy (Charles) Burgess of Jay; grandchildren, Jessica White, Kendall (Kat) White, Kendrick (Amber) White, Kelley Nunemaker, Christina (John) Brown all of Texas, Kevin (Melissa) Lovett of Pace, Colton White of Chumuckla, Jansen Burgess and Taylor Burgess of Jay; three great grandchildren; sister, Christina (Michael) Harrison; mother of his children, wife of over 20 years and continued loyal friend, Elsie White; his faithful companion, his dog “girlfriend” Susie-Q; and many nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.

He was very passionate about his family and loved his grandkids with all his heart. He instilled in us integrity, loyalty and most of all love. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel with Rev. Curtis Powell, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel directing. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel.

Search Ongoing For Cantonment Man Wanted In Toddler Murder

Authorities are still searching for a former Cantonment resident that is the suspected triggerman in the shooting a death of a Pensacola toddler over two months ago.

Dwayne  “Money” Pinestraw, 19, is wanted on an open count of murder for the shooting death of Ty’Quarius Moultrie, 19 months old; aggravated battery for the shooting of Vincent Dennis, 23; and firing a weapon into an occupied building for the incident that occurred in July at Pensacola Village, 500 E. Fairfield Drive.

Multiple shots were fired into the apartment back on July 15, according to Pensacola Police, shortly after several people were involved in a drug transaction nearby.

Pinestraw’s last known address was on Lake Drive in Cantonment. Pinestraw is a black male, approximately 5-feet 6-inches tall and approximately 130 pounds. He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Pensacola Police.

Anyone having information on the Pinestraw’s location or the shooting is asked to contact Lt. Doug Baldwin at  (850) 435-1908, Detective James Reese at (850) 435-1976, or the Desk Sergeant’s Office at (850) 435-1900. According to a release from the Pensacola Police Department, Pinestraw should be considered armed and dangerous.

Blood Drive Today At Two Molino Churches

A community blood drive will take place today at two Molino churches.

Northwest Florida Blood Services  will be at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Highway 97 from 8 to 11 a.m. and then at Highland Baptist Church on Highway 95A from noon until 3 p.m.

When you donate to Northwest Florida Blood Services, you can save the life of a hospital patient in northwest Florida. Northwest Florida Blood Services is the exclusive provider of blood products to more than 24 area hospitals who need 175 blood donations a day. Each donation can save up to three lives.

Requirements for giving blood are below.

  • Donors must be in generally good health
  • At least 17 years of age, without permission.  16-year olds with permission granted by parents or legal guardians.
  • Must bring picture ID
  • Weigh at least 110 lbs
  • Free of infection, fever or flu symptoms, for 3 days
  • No cancer within the last 5 years
  • No antibiotics within the last 48 hours
  • No tattoos within the past 12 months
  • No chest pain, heart disease, heart surgery (Requires written physician release with diagnosis)
  • No history of viral hepatitis
  • Cannot have lived in France for 5 years or more between 1980 and the present
  • Cannot have lived or visited in the UK for a total of 3 months or more from 1980 to 1996
  • Cannot have received a blood transfusion in the UK between 1980 and the present
  • Military personnel (current and former), and their dependents, who spent time in military bases in northern Europe during 1980-1990, or southern Europe during 1980-1996, for 6 months or more
  • All military personnel (active & reserve) that are returning from Iraq, are deferred for a period of 1 year after the last date on location in that country.
