Coach Day,
Congrats, sorry this is late, but better late than ever. You were a great guy when we coached together at Ernest Ward. I thought you were teacher and coach of- the-year back in those days. (1986-90).

Congratulations Coach Day! It is a great honor to have had you as a teacher — not only for Drivers’ Ed, but 8th grade Science. You made Science fun . I guess my driving group was boring — I don’t remember any exciting stories. I do remember that you did not give A’s for the driving part of class. You said “nobody drove perfect!” But that was certainly a fair statement (even though I did not like it at the time!). But you were fair in everything that I remember you being a part of. PS — I think it is a great testiment to read all of these positive statements reflective of your long teaching/mentoring/caring career. Thank you for being a positive role model above and beyond a good teacher and coach. May God bless you with many good retirement years!
Dad, I’m so proud of you. You are so deserving of this award for all of your hard work and dedication on and off the field. I feel so blessed to have you has a father. I have to say, as much as you’ll be missed, I’m excited for your retirement. Now you’ll have plenty of time to help the babies, Samuel and Sawyer with baseball, fishing, and whatever life lessons you can throw their way. I love you dad and Congratulations.
Coach Day: A name that brings back fond memories for me. I’ve kept up with you over the years and I want you to know that you were a fatherly influence in my life. You always had a dry sense of humor that made me smile. You have walked those hallways of Ernest Ward and Northview many-a-time and I’m actually not quite sure how they will make it without you. Know that you are loved and respected by many-especially those students who were lucky enough to get to know you. Best of luck to you!
Congratulations Coach Day! You’re the best teacher and really deserve this award. :] Driving with you has been so much fun. I honestly think our group might have killed anyone else that tried to teach us to drive. We ran off the road a couple million times, argued about complete stops just as many, and kept you up to date on all the dude drama and gossip. We hope we’ve made as much of an impression as you have on us. Enjoy retirement and know we’ll miss you our next two years at Northview!!!
<3 Love your Favorite Driving Group
Congratulations Sandra!!! You finally raised Sammy right Behind every good man is a multi-talented, hard-working woman. Sammy, congratulations on your job and, even more–your terrific family. Now you have time for many more intense penny poker games…..wish Teddy was still here to take your money Arelene
WOW!! Coach Day!! What a great name to a great man that has GREAT memories in my mind!! You sure made a difference in my life and I have thought of you often over the years!! You so deserve this honor and I’m sure there are years past that you were the Teacher of the Year as well. Sure wish we had a Coach Day down here in Sarasota that could teach my daughter to drive when it comes time. Im sure it won’t be as much fun for her as it was for all of us who were lucky to have you as our teacher!! Much love, hugs and kisses!!! God speed my friend
CONGRATS Sammy…….You have truly been a blessing in so many peoples lives. You truly deserve this honor. Best wishes in your retirement.
Your top-shelf Coach, we had alot of laughs & a few tears. Let’s see how your memory is working…..35 years later…..You were called to the office for a phone call, best I recall. Upon returning, and continuing the lesson, you discovered large spit balls (wet paper) on the class room ceiling, which was just a prank back then, that began to fall to the floor. I think 5 of us honest young boys admitted to it. 4 recieved a paddling & the 5th one kept moving into the desk, which we had to hang onto, knowing you could swing that board pretty dang hard. You got so tickled & was laughing but you still paddled me anyway. Are you remembering yet??? Then, about 25 years later you questioned my daughter “Has your daddy already been letting you drive??? Ha! Ha! You better be glad some of those kids had some prior experience or you would have had to go out on a medical a long time back!!!! I just wish the schools had more teachers & coaches like yourself. I also wish things were more like “way back then”, more kids were more respectful when they knew they’d get tuned up. Numerous times while talking about old times with my old classmates your name has come up as being a favorite and usually a comical story involved. I could go on & on but I’ll just tip my hat to you coach, JOB WELL DONE!!!!!! Your friend, Bennie
Congrats Coach Day. You have always been an inspiration and great representative for our school and our area. Thanks for all you did for us on the softball, baseball and football fields, in the classroom and, most of all in our lives. We are all better people after knowing you.
Best piece of advice you ever gave me…..”play the hop. Don’t let the hop play you.”. Great advice that I still use today.

Awesome teacher very deserving of the award.
Congratulations, you are very deserving of this award!
Coach Day, What a a great man, what a Great Teacher, What a Great Coach. We all love Coach Day. Coach, Remember the time in Driver’s Ed when I thought it was ok to run the yellow light on Main Street in Atmore. It wasn’t red yet. All of a sudden a squealing noise sounded off and the car came to an immediate stop! I looked over at you and you were laughing so hard. I then realized you had slammed on the break from your side. I started shaking and Marilyn and Angela that was suppose to be sitting in the back in their seat was in the floor board laughing more than you were. Then (unaware to me who was still in shock & shaking) the light turned green and you calmly said with a smile uh you can go now!! Every time I see a yellow light I think of you and immediately stop. That was the first day, but at the end of the year you awarded me the Driver’s Ed Award. I was so proud, thank you for teaching me so well. The only time I seen you get mad was when Angela ran off the road from looking at a cute boy walking down the road. You made her stop immedaitely and switch drivers. Our schools need more teachers like you. A man with integrity and great character., We enjoyed having you as a teacher, coach and bus driver for the band to the Christmas Parades with Kelly seated right behind you. We respected you so much and even more today. We knew you were seriuos about learning but also had fun with us too. Congratulations!! you are so well deserving of this honor. A Great Man, He has Always been our Teacher and Coach of the Year!! Teelya, Class of 1985.
WAY 2 GO COACH DAY…JOB VERY WELL DONE AND YOU DESERVE THE BEST!!!
good job for teacher of the year. you are the best teacher i ever had.
Hey Coach Day,
Remember the day in drivers ed we drove over to ……………..well, better not tell that story. Ok, well, remember the time in drivers ed we went to see…………….uh, better not tell that story either. Alright, what about on the way back from state championship when Mike Peacock and Stormy Roberts,,,,,,,,,,,,,,gees, can’t tell that one either. Man, I guess this is kind of like Sunday dinner at mom’s; some stories are better left untold. In this case, we better leave some stories untold until after you start getting those retirement checks. LOL! I bet you could write a book though.
You took me to the State championship in 1982, I would love to see you take Lauren there in 2012!!!
Way to go Coach Day for a job well done! Loved having you as a teacher and a softball coach
Congragulations Coach Day!!! You deserve this honor for all of your hard work and dedication. I am glad that I was able to have you as a teacher and coach. Enjoy your retirement because you deserve it.
Way to go Coach Day for a job well done! Enjoyed having you as a teacher and a Softball coach!
I add my congrats to everyone else’s…Coach Day is one in a million and more than deserves to be recognized! How he managed to teach all of us to drive is mind-boggling, especially considering what terrible drivers we all were! He prevented many nervous breakdowns of parents who would not have been so patient! Coach Day, thanks for being a great teacher and coach. I’m sad for the kids coming up–they’ll be missing out! Oh, and I hope you and Mrs. Sandra keep coming to the reunions–it was wonderful to see you this summer!
Congrats, Coach Day! You were definitely most deserving of this. All the senior softball girls are gonna miss you after this year!
Congratulations Coach Day!!! I would agree with Becky about driver’s ed. I still remember summer drivers ed. class. It was so much fun! Thank you for working with students over the past 37 years. Enjoy your retirement!

Way to go Coach Day! I agree with Becky that he deserves an award for teaching all of the north end kids how to drive. I speak of him often as my daughter will be 15 next month and starting to drive. I always say “I took my driver’s test at school with Coach Day.” Enjoy your retirement.
Coach Day is a great teacher and person. I’m glad he received this honor. Way to go Coach!
