Jobless Rate Increases Across Area

December 17, 2011

The latest job numbers released Friday showed an increasing number of people out of work in the three-county North Escambia area — while Florida’s state unemployment rate dropped to the lowest level in two and a half years.

Escambia County’s unemployment increase slightly from 9.9 percent in October to 10.2 percent in November. There were 135 jobs during the period, for a total Escambia County unemployment of 13,962  people. One year ago, unemployment in Escambia County was 11.5 percent.

Santa Rosa County unemployment increased a half percentage point from 8.7 percent in October to 9.2 percent in November. Santa Rosa County lost 277 jobs during the period, with a total of 6,458  persons still unemployed. The year-ago unemployment rate in Santa Rosa County was 10.2 percent.

The employment news was a bit better in Escambia County, Alabama, where unemployment dropped from 10.1 percent in October to 9.3 percent in November. That represented 34 people returning to work during the month. There were 1,350 people unemployed in the county during the month.

Florida’s jobless rate dipped in November to 10 percent – its lowest level in 30 months — as the state added 98,100 non-agricultural jobs over the year and lowered its unemployment rate by 1.9 percentage points from November 2010.

“We are continuing to move Florida in the right direction by streamlining government, eliminating burdensome regulations, identifying economic development opportunities and prioritizing education,” Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement. “I am hopeful that we will see Florida’s unemployment rate continue to decline as jobs grow and more Floridians find work.”

Alabama’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, at 8.7 percent in November, was down from October’s rate of 9.3 percent and was below the year-ago rate of 9.1.percent.

So unemployment is down across the state despite Governor Scott and up around here because of Governor Scott?

Wouldn’t it be easier if we just blamed the governor for all bad things and say he had nothing to do with any good thing which might accidentally happen? Oh, wait, that’s what we’re doing.

    Never mind.

    David considering blaming him
    for floods and droughts

You can thank Rick Scott for unemployment rate , he hasnt done anything to create jobs. He has only handed out Welfare, corporate Welfare to all his friends in politics

whether you like it or not, Rick Scott is going to go down in Florida history as one of the best governors, ever. He has made a concerted effort to do just as he has promised, give us as close to a balanced budget as we have ever had. Only the toes he has stepped on doing his job are the ones squawking.

Rick Scott did exactly what he said he would: cut government spending and try to attract new businesses to Florida. This is more than I can say for some others who made campaign speeches and didn’t follow through on them! If you don’t like him, elect someone else…don’t mud-sling and slander! The people who make comments like these need to state facts, not heresay.

And this comes as no surprise…Escambia County does absolutely NOTHING to attract business or encourage the small business to open here. Too many permits which take way too long and no incentives! Nothing has changed here in 30 years, except Pensacola is more run down looking. Not a way to attract tourists!

Rick Scott is crazy in love with himself. Never seen the likes except maybe Gingrich who while his wife just came out of breast cancer surgery tells her, I mean just came back to her room, he was leaving her for another woman that he hadn’t loved her in years. Got that from her room-mate in the hospital in Atlanta. Rick Scott wouldn’t know a good policy if he tripped over it.
