The Florida Highway Patrol announced Monday that troopers are cracking down on drunk and drugged driving during December, which is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.
“We encourage everyone to plan ahead this holiday season to avoid drinking or drugged driving,” said Col. David Brierton, director of the FHP. “We are encouraging all drivers to make good decisions.”
According to the Florida Highway Patrol
- During the four-day New Year’s holiday travel period in 2010, 32 people died on Florida’s roadways. Of those, 12 were alcohol-related.
- During the four-day Christmas holiday travel period in 2010, 24 people died on Florida’s roadways. Of those, eight were alcohol-related.
- Drug-related injuries and fatalities decreased between 2009 and 2010 from 1,090 to 1,063.

They should be doing this ALL the time, that’s their job.
With all these traffic fatalities in the past couple of weeks, FHP’s whip cracking on drinking and drugged driving sounds like an awesome initiative during this holiday traveling.
I have no problem with this. If you don’t drink and drive, do drugs, speed, or drive without your insurance or drivers license then this is just a very good thing
for citizens and will keep all our loved ones safer for the Holidays.
I love the FHP you see them running all over the place AND actually writing
up speeders instead of sitting in some tom thumb and then running right
by speeders and doing nothing.
Char for our LEO’S actually doing their JOBS.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
