Road construction at Century’s only intersection with a traffic signal created delays on Saturday. Crews were working to resurface a potion of State Road 4 at North Century Boulevard (Highway 29). NorthEscambia.com photo, click to enlarge.

I always drop it into third and watch the speedometer. Those are some interesting points about the Seniors and shoppers. I never really spend any time there, just ease on through. 35 MPH is no strain, thats what I drive on Pine Barren and the like. Just wondering, now I know.
The biggest thing this that there are a lot of side roads and a few hills with poor visibility in Century that intersects with Hwy 29. Also there are local businesses in Century with people crossing the road to get from one store to the next. The 4 most difficult places to pull out onto Hwy 29 in Century are. (1) Food Giant because of the over pass. (2) Ace Hardware because the Sandwich Delly’s sign is blocking the view of the Hwy pulse the sharp turn the Hwy makes. (3) The Court House and Hwy 4A I think because a steep hill that creates a blind spot. If you increase the speed limit through the residential and business area of Century, you also put peoples safety at risk. The only time you will see any police officers enforcing this speed limit is about 9:30 to 10:30 at night. Sometimes you will see a State trooper during the day once a month or so. But during the day you can do about 55 MPH through Century and nobody seems to care. I wont lie sometimes I do 45, I try to keep it around 35 to 38 MPH.
Century doesn’t need to shed the 35mph speed limit because there are alot of elderly people that walk the streets. Increasing the speed limit might increase their chance of getting hit.
If Century has only one intersection, then why since I can remember, has she not been able to shed that 35 MPH speed limit ? Maybe nobody ever thought to upgrade the speed limit, as the decades passed ?
