Northview Student Passes Away From Injuries Received In Wreck

A 16-year old Northview High School student passed away mid-morning today from injuries he received when he crashed his pickup Wednesday morning in Bratt.
Kenneth Wade Jernigan of Century, a sophomore at Northview, was on his way to school at the time of the wreck. He was northbound on Pine Barren Road north of Breastworks Road at about 8:30 a.m. when he drifted off the roadway onto the shoulder as he attempted to travel around a curve. He over-corrected, lost control and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Firefighters worked over 20 minutes using the Jaws of Life to remove the teen from his mangled 1999 Chevrolet pickup. He was airlifted by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Jernigan passed away at 9:38 Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Hospital.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jernigan was not wearing a seat belt.

The Escambia County School District will have counselors available to students and staff at Northview High School on Thursday.
The Molino, McDavid and Century stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call.

Having also lost a child, my heart goes out to this family. This happens to be just a few SECONDS from my driveway. I was heartbroken to see the events play out. NORTHVIEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PLEASE obey the speed limit in Pine Barren. I have very young children who wait on their bus ON THIS ROAD. I see many of you every morning hoing ridiculously fast, not saying Wade was. But PLEASE be mindful. I have even had to stop allowing them to stand and wait on their bus because of how unsafe it has become, rather in the car until the bus is here. My prayers are with all of you effected by this loss.

wade,you were like a older brother.you would tell me to keep my head up even when i am sad or if i am feeling sick.you were the only one who could make me smile if i was sad or if i was mad at something.i miss you so much.it is not the same without you there at school or seeing you in the hallways.you made everything look easier than they were.i was there at the crush site.i saw you in the truck and when you got toke out of the car.when i saw you like that it made me cry my eyes out.i will never forget you Wade.i think nobody will never forget a great guy like you.we just had a quiet ride just for you.there were like 50 or more cars just for you.everybody have there blinkers on and nobody broke the line because they knew what we were doing.some cars stopped in the middle of the road.others pulled off the side of the road.even some of the buses stopped and put their blinkers on.see you are love all many people.i hope you saw what we did for you in heaven.i also hope you love what we did.you will always be in our hearts and thoughts.me and my sister,Ashley Johnson, miss you so much.we cried for you Wade.we love you and miss you so much Wade. <3

Wade was truely a sweetheart, he was the best friend a girl could have. I was so shocked and overwhelmed about the passing i broke down in to tears. But later on in the day i realized this is a time not mourn and grieve but to mainly honor how great of a guy he was. God took his fallen Angle back today!. Im so happy to know that he doesnt have to suffer anymore. Tomorrow at bratt park we are having a line up a ride to remember Wade. All NHS students are invited. 8am tomorrow morning. Wade didnt deserve this but now he is in the hands of God now.
My heart and prayers go out to this family and the students at Northview. When I was a student at Northview several years ago, we lost a dear friend in a tragedy just like this. While this young man may be gone, he will never be forgotten by those he impacted, just as no one who knew Blake will ever forget him. I still think of our old friend often. It is amazing how a community can come together and heal during times like these.

I am so sorry for the loss of this wonderful young man. The letters to him are a tribute to all that he was. He was a comforter, a real pal when you needed him, this could only come from a sound background of the love of Christ instilled to his very soul, not by force but by choice, and the guidance of loving parents who knew what the love of God means.
It is hard to bury a child, but God in his wisdom know better than us, and he will give you strength to get you through, turn to that faith now and know he will never leave you.
There are no words we can say to take away the hurt, for this loss is to the very core of our being, but know, people who love you are here and are ready to help in any way you may need. God bless you Ken , you were a great dad and you know he loved you. Melissa he was lucky to have you as a step-mom he knew the love you had for him and he had that same love for you. To his Mother, God bless you too, You all raised a great young man.

I’ve never in my time being at Northview, witnessed the halls so empty of emotion and noise. Silence had overwhelmed us completely. This tells you how great of a guy he was. So sorry to hear about wade, I didn’t know him to well, but I did speak to him several times. I remember seeing him walking over to his girlfriends house so many times even before he was driving. I lost my nine year old daughter 2 months ago. I know the heartache you are feeling right now. The best advice I can give you is to lean on one another during this time. Talk to Wade and let him know how much he means to you. Tell him some of the memories you have of him that mean the most. There are so many things I wanted to tell my daughter but I didn’t have the chance to. Let Wade know how much you want him to come back to you. Be there for one another and don’t be afraid to cry to laugh or show any type of emotion that becomes of you. Have faith and let God take control.

my heart really goes out to the parents. the 12th of this month in 2009, i lost my son due to a grill explosion. and as a parent i can feel the pain you are going through. my son was 24. and the pain a mother feels is so real. i leaned on JESUS. sure i have asked why so many times. but it is not for us to know why. 12-12-09 i relive it all over again. the accident, hearing the life flight going over my house, then the phone call from my mom. and hearing the er doctor telling me my son had a 0 percent chance to live. the hardest was having life support turned off. just lean on JESUS in this you are going through. Jesus will get you through this. and i will keep your family in my prayers.
God please comfort this family and The NHS students who are grieving as well.
