Escambia Drive-by Shooting Leaves Three Injured

November 2, 2011

Three men were shot in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night near a store West Pensacola before driving to a crowded shopping center.

The three were shot about 7:35 p.m. at the corner of Cerny and Muldoon roads at the Fast Link Groceries store. Two other people in the vehicle were not injured as gunfire shattered the car’s windows.

Two 19-year old victims were shot in the hand, while a male about 19-years old was hit in the head.

The victims drove their Pontiac a couple of miles away to the parking lot of Planet Fitness near Publix on Mobile Highway. All three were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by ambulance where they were treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening.

There have been no arrests in the case. As of last report, no suspects have been identified. Further details, including the names of the victims, have not yet been made available.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

    REGARDING:
“Someone suggested security. I don’t understand what kind of security they
could be referring to at 7.35 in the evening, are we all to carry guns and fire back?”

The question is written as if the only possible answer would be no, don’t carry guns and never fire back. Of course, you can definitely get in trouble for shooting into cars even if someone in them is firing out in the air or even at you, but there’s trouble and there’s dead. Many consider it better to be in trouble than to be dead.

You can decide for yourself which you prefer.

Other aspects of security might include locked doors and raised windows and inconspicuous cars, avoiding high crime rate areas. I used to drive daily in places which were daily listed in the arrest records as residence of people charged with assorted felonies. Others avoided those areas.

If you assume everybody you meet is armed, you are more likely to be polite to them and less likely to anger them in the first place.

I don’t know if any of that applies to this situation but it is something worth considering.

    David for caution

Hello Michigan Ave. Resident. I remember places like Mayfair and Avondale were totally different back in the 70s. There was a major change in demographics, there at some point. The new demographic seems to be much different from the old demographic. I wonder why that is? I also wonder where so many of the new demographic came from?

People it will do no good to moan and groan, about the changing times, and the crime that is coming along with them. These are the good times people. As runaway inflation continues to accelerate, and municipalities and townships loose funding, cuts will take place. People will have to adjust and adapt to the socio-economic climate of the times. When people fall to poverty, they will either suffer with dignity, or go out and steal, deal, rob or whatever. Work with our sheriff, and take a look at what you can do to help yourself. Keep faith with the Lord.

This is tragic. About a year ago, I got held-up at gunpoint in that area. I knew things were slowly graduating in violence, but no one actually shot at me or the passengers of my car at that time. They just wanted money. I know many people around there and gangs aren’t the problem. It’s tight knit family… showed by elders how to deal in the city. Don’t be scared. Just guard yourself.

I wonder why they drove away? To ditch something I bet……

I’d bet a $1000 these guys know who shot at them. Pensacola is following cities like Detroit with these supposed drive-by shootings. Three guys in a car are not randomly shot at. All a part of the wannabee gangs which will become full-fleged gangs if the wannabees aren’t thrown under the jail right now. Pensacola needs to become known for giving speedy trials and lifelong sentences to these morons. Then they will go find an easier city to take control of.

How do you secure yourself in a vehicle with windows from gun fire?

Things are bad all over. The sad fact is the law is not omnipotent. There are physical limitations to an organizations span of control. I think Sheriff Morgan is attacking crime on all levels, with innovation and using time tested techniques. Even Marshall Dillion could not cover everything. I would suggest taking a little responsibility for yourself. Security is the key word on the new frontier.

See, operation “Anything for a Buck” really didn’t do anything to reduce crime, but it was great PR till this story broke.

Well we know at least one gun didn’t get sold to the “dollar store”. I’m getting to feel safer walking naked through downtown New Orleans at midnight than driving in west pensacola in my locked car.
