Atmore Motorcyclist Injured In Cantonment Traffic Crash
November 8, 2011
An Atmore motorcyclist was seriously injured when he collided with a SUV and a pickup Tuesday afternoon in Cantonment.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 22-year Joshua T. Daniel was northbound on Highway 29 near Tate School Road about 3:30 p.m. on a Yamaha motorcycle when he struck the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 40-year old Rebecca Mills of Cantonment and the muffler of a Chevrolet Silverado driven 17-year old Joshua Ingram.
According to the FHP, Mills slowed at a traffic light when Ingram veered to the left to avoid her SUV. Daniel unsuccessfully tried to avoid a collision by veering to the left. Daniel was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition. Mills, Ingram and a passenger in Ingram’s pickup – 16-year old Victoria Ingram — were not injured.
Daniel was cited for careless driving, according to the FHP.
The Cantonment Stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident

It is amazing to me how are public feels about bikes. So much for our rights, how many times in your car does some idiot slam on their breaks, cut you off or just not pay attention? When you hit them it is their fault, and us. Two years ago a friend lost his life and a judge gave the lady that killed him 166.00 ticket! This is the most he could because of state laws. A old man came earlier and he was caught with a fish that was not legal size, his ticket was 500.00.???? He was punished for trying to care for his family and my friends family is alone. WHEN IS A FISH MORE IMPORTANT THAN A LIFE? If you dont like bikes fine but please understand we have familys too!
@Thinker: You obviously are NOT much of a thinker or a reader for that matter. If you had read the article, you would have read where the truck behind the woman that he hit had to swerve to avoid hitting her when she made an abrupt stop. Therefore my brother had no where to go to avoid hitting the woman. He was cited for careless driving because he rear ended the woman. In most states if you rear end someone, you are considered to be at fault regardless of what caused the wreck. The FHP Officer and all witnesses even said he was only doing about 35mph (way under the speed limit). If its not too much to ask, please make sure you know what you are talking about before you make a comment like this again….especially in a situation like this where someone was seriously injured.
i am so glad to hear that he is going to be ok… i know it will be a long recovery. My heart sank when i saw this accident … really shook me up … hang in there Josh we are all praying for you . praying for all invvloved
@thinker – Some drivers of cars and motorcyclists are rude and inconsiderate when driving, not all, so please do not lump every motorcycle rider together… There are those of us that follow the laws of the road and some accidents are just unavoidable and other accidents caused by careless drivers…. Since I was not there I can not pass judgement on what he was doing nor would I want to see the only judgement that counts is the one that happens when I leave this world…. I pray that Josh continues to heal physically and mentally….
Very glad to hear that Josh’s family is going through a hospital vigil and looking toward his recovery rather than a wake and funeral. My spouse & I have both biked for over 30 years and we love it. We have witnessed numerous times how quickly something negative can happen to bikers. Rest & recover, Josh and all involved, because an incident like this works on you mentally as well as physically.
@Thinker. Maybe you should speak for yourself instead regarding motorcycles bringing out the dare-devil in us all. I have been riding motorcycles for 40 years or more. I have never had an accident nor have I eve gotten any kind of moving violation. I take it from the way you talk that when you strap that 2 wheeler between your legs you think that you become invincible.
So please do not stereotype all of us motorcycle riders on what you do.
HOPE THE YOUNG MAN HEALS WELL AND COMPLETLY. IT’S ALWAYS HARDEST ON THE ONE RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE IN AN ACCIDENT. I SUPPOSE THIS SHOULD SERVE AS A CAUTION FOR EVERYONE. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND BECAUSE BIKES ARE SMALLER THAN VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY WATCH OUT FOR THEM…THEY CAN’T ALWAYS GET OUT OF THE WAY VERY FAST. WE SHOULD ALL PAY ATTENTION WHEN WE DRIVE. ACCIDENTS ARE NO FUN FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN THEM.
Josh is the safest driver I have ever known. One time when we were 4 wheelin at the PIT I just about rolled my jeep. Josh really let me have it. He did it in the kindest and most gentle way possible though. To all concerned. He has plenty of mineral water and will not need any until some time next week. Hope you get well soon.
@Thinker…from the recent comments, it looks like you may need to change your sign in name from “Thinker” to “Foot In Mouther” or at least don’t profess to be a “thinker” if you jump to conclusions and generalize that “people who ride motorcyles are always over the speed limit”. I don’t like motorcyles either but I dislike even more people who think their opinions are fact and leave no room for exceptions . Based on what I have read, you owe this young man an apology post at the very least and probably his family/friends, cause it seems you poked the sleeping bear.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. Hoping for a speedy recovery for all.
Josh is the safest driver I have ever known. Every time I ride with him (in his truck) I joke on him for driving like a grandpa. One morning when I was 16, he was behind me going to school (I didn’t know because he was 2 cars behind me), and I passed the car in front of me, not seeing that a car was pulling out onto the road at the same time. Nothing happened (thankfully), but when I got to school, Josh let me have it (which is extremely rare/almost unheard of for anyone who knows Josh). We still joke about that time he jumped on me for passing that car. Of all people for this to happen to… it goes to show how dangerous motorcycles are in general. He won’t even ride me (or anyone) on the motorcycle around a parking lot because he doesn’t want to take a chance. He’s so loving and caring to everyone around him. The only reason he even has a bike is for gas purposes. He isn’t like most people.
This serves to show that anything can happen to anyone at any time. Josh would pray and be there for anyone if this situation were reversed. Please keep up the prayers as he deals with the pain and starts the tough road to recovery.
Ok after talking to my son in the Chevy truck. The lady stopped rather quickly as soon as the light turned yellow. He swerved to the left into the turn lane to avoid hitting her. This made it so the motorcycle rider did not see the SUV stopping rather quickly. He tried to stop in time but slid on the white line, hitting both vechiles. @ thinker, really all motorcycles are over the speed limit is not a very smart comment. The normal flow of traffice (cars, trucks, police) is over the speed limit. I ride and plenty of times at or below the speed limit. Please remember just because one person is putting on makeup while driving does not mean all people do that, or one on a cell phone means everyone does.
@Thinker
I just wanted to set the record straight for everyone assuming Josh was speeding. The Highway Patrol said this accident was UNAVOIDABLE and that Josh was going 35. Where on Highway 29 is the speed limit 35? Its not. And it sure isn’t 35 where the accident happened. So Josh was being careful and going under the speed limit. Josh is a very careful person. And as his family I do not appreciate you speculating about what you think happened, because it is what you usually know to be true. It was not the case here. I want it to be very clear that this accident was unavoidable because of his carelessness. It was unavoidable because sometimes things like that just happen. You can be doing everything right and accidents happen.
Everyone else, please continue to pray for Josh. I spoke with him this morning and he is doing well but is in a lot of pain.
For all of you who do not know Josh, but feel the need to make comments anyway….It is not fair to put Josh into a category of a wreckless motorcycle driver just because he made one mistake. It is my understanding that a vehicle in front of him slowed down and he was unable to miss it, therefore he rear-ended it…. Accidents happen, even though it was his fault ,it was in NO WAY intentional, it was just that, an accident. He is one of the most honest, upstanding, RESPONSIBLE, AND SAFE, people that I know, and anyone who knows him will also have the same opinion of him…He never meets a stranger and is loved by everyone who knows him. So, for these people who feel the need to post their hasty comments, and don’t know the victim or the circumstances surrounding the incident, remember it could be you one day that is the same situation. I highly doubt that you would want strangers posting unwanted comments about you!!!!
@Thinker…..your correct but this kids life is on the line so maybe this
will be his wake up call. I hope he recovers and there is no infection
or permanent injury. Let us know. Thanks!
The people on motorcycles are always over the speed limit. I am very tired of trying to get out of their way because I do not want to be involved. I’ve had motorcycles in my life and the only place they are fun are two-lane hwys in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday morning. He was going too fast to avoid hitting the lady. I am sure he is a nice person but motorcycles bring out the dare-devil in all of us.
OK someone please tell me how it is someone collides with a muffler of a Chevrolet Silverado?
From the news article: when he struck the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 40-year old Rebecca Mills of Cantonment and the muffler of a Chevrolet Silverado driven 17-year old Joshua Ingram.
I fianally gave up my motorcycle when more and more traffic was on the road. No matter whose fault it is the person on the motorcycle gets the worse end of accident. Hope he will be Ok.
For anyone who knows Josh, you all know he is the most responsible and upstanding young men around. I am admire him more than just about anyone I know. He is a very careful driver, unfortunately one small mistake or misstep has caused him this intense pain and long road to recovery. Our family is very thankful tonight that it was not any worse than it was and that we will be lucky to have Josh in our lives showing us the right way to conduct ourselves as family, as people, and as Christians.
Josh is out of surgery and doing well. He had a compound fracture in his femur, which they fixed. His pelvis is still crushed and they will be doing that surgery on friday. The kickstand went into his hip and shattered his pelvis, so right now infection is their biggest worry. Keep praying it is gonna be a painful recovery…
He in surgery at Sacred Heart at the moment. He has a broken femur and broken pelvis. Please continue to pray for him. Thank you for your concern.
anyone have any updates on josh? hope he’s ok!!!
My son was there and my truck was also hit, went to Sacred Heart and checked on Josh and his femur and pelvis were broken, pray for everyone.
Your prayers are appreciated. We are so glad he was wearing his helmet too. It could have been a lot worse.
He is in surgery right now. He is alive jus a few broken bones thank u for your prayers! (Josh Daniel, boy on bike)
