Fire Destroys Cotton Picker (With Photo Gallery)

Fire destroyed a cotton picker Monday afternoon in Bratt.

The fire was reported in a field south of Hanks Road west of Pine Barren Road just before 3 p.m.; it was declared under control about 3:50 p.m. The John Deere 9970 cotton picker was a total loss.

There were no injuries reported. The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The Walnut Hill, McDavid and Century stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded the blaze.

    My husband and I are so sorry for these peoples loss. I hope their insurance will
    cover it and that they recover from this ordeal financially. We must realize that
    so many are struggling right now.

    I do not think a fire extinguisher would have mattered, one way or the other. Glad no one was hurt.

    Thanks to all the fire departments for your rapid response. Thank God that Gary got off the picker in time to be safe. We are truly blessed.

    In picture 32, does anyone else see the face high above cotton picker blowing smoke. Looks like a kids face to me, or maybe it is a walrus.

    Guess the price of cotton will go up in smoke after this huh ?? Glad no one was injured….good story anyway
