Century’s Roadside Park To Be Renamed ‘Nadine McCaw Park’

November 22, 2011

Century will rename the “Roadside Park” for the late town council member Nadine McCaw. The park, located along North Century Boulevard at Hecker Road, will  be official renamed by proclamation at an upcoming town council meeting.

“Her memory and legacy will continue to live on,” council member Sandra McMurray Jackson said. McCaw was known for going above and beyond for Century, often working behind the scenes and using her own money to benefit the town and its citizens, according to council member Gary Riley.

“She spent most of her paycheck every month on Century,” Mayor Freddie McCall said.

Everybody’s right: Nadine WOULD have been embarrassed by all this but it doesn’t mean that she didn’t deserve it anyway. She poured her heart and soul into making “her” town the best that she possibly could. I’m so glad that the Council saw fit to honor her memory this way.

Century City Council, I am so proud of you for doing this. I think of Nadine all of the time and I know she deserves it. Thank you for acknowledging the best supporter of any small town that I have ever met.

I read this while at work on my break, but of course did not take the time to reply on the phone keypad, lol. I cried reading it and remembering how much mom loved the park and making it something nice for everyone. Whether it was decorations, or events–she wanted the town to be able to have something nice that people could visit and stop if they were traveling. She would have been so honored, but embarrased at this as she never wanted others to know how much she was actually responsible for. Thank you all so much for recognizing my mom and all of her love that she poured into the town.

I am thrilled the park is being named after her. I did not know her,but of, but knew she had a love and desire to see the park taken care of and it being a highlight of Century.

Having a business for a long time across from the park, most local people would not beleive the tourists who stopped there for their lunch or a break.Once the town got it cleaned up with the help of law enfourcent Nadine was able to turn it into a nice picnic area without a dime of the twon’s money.Way to go council! Nadine would be embarrassed if she were here, and say she was just doing her part! I miss you Nadine.

What a honor! I know Nadine would be happy. Nadine never wanted the spot light on her, . she did everything out of love for this town. I pray some good things can come to this town because I know that is what she wanted. Thank you Mayor and council for bestowing this honor in her memory

My mother would be so honored if she were still alive. She worked so hard to beautify Century. I know she is looking down smiling at this. My mother was truly a selfless person who worked, and went above and beyond, for everyone. I have seen her take her own bill money to buy food for people who told her that they didn’t have any. She was truly one of a kind!!!! Most people have no idea how much of her own money went into the town and the citizens there, but her family sure did. I miss her so much everyday. She was truly an example for others to follow, and I was blessed to have called her mother!

Words cannot express how I feel reading this article. This Park meant so much to Nadine as well as the Town itself. I know she is smiling now. I love her and miss her so bad and know she would be so please to see this happening. She did not want any glory for what she did. But it is so heart warming to know that she was so loved by so many. Thank you.
