Car Found In Ravine Long After Apparent Traffic Crash
November 17, 2011
A car was discovered in a deep ravine Thursday morning, apparently weeks or even months after a traffic crash.
The car was spotted by a passerby in a ravine parallel to railroad tracks on South Highway 99 at Highway 97A in Bay Springs. Area fire departments and an ambulance were dispatched because the caller was unable to advise anything other than that the airbags had deployed on the vehicle.
Firefighters discovered that the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo had been in the ravine perhaps for a long period of time; brush and small trees had grown around the vehicle. A search did not find any human remains in or near the vehicle.
It appeared that the driver of the vehicle was headed south on South Highway 99 and failed to negotiate a 90-degree turn.
The incident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

I surre would like to have the transmission out of it!
The car has not been there for years. Maybe close to a month. I remember seeing the fresh tracks when it happened. My husband, myself & my granddaughter saw them.
It’s almost like it was dumped there. Scrap metal prices are good!
Have been waiting to see a report of this car being found since Oct 31st when my sister and her son saw it and reported it to authorities. All of this seems very strange to me. Why the delay in actually investigating this report?
Insurance fraud? Stolen car? Or someone running from whatever?
well I could probably use the set of wheels on the car. they appear to be standard chevy 5 lug pattern.
I hope the owner will be required to come get it. I do not think tax payers should foot the bill for the removal of this car. I am sure there are environmental issues if the car has gas and oil in it.
MOM!!…..I swear I parked the car behind the barn that night…….
MOM!!! I promise I don’t remember where I parked the car that night!!!
Please,by all means, keep us updated on who is/was the owner!!!!!!
I WAS AT THIS CALL. THERE WAS NO TAG ON THE CAR. THE PAPERS WHERE TAKEN. THE FHP WAS RUNNING ID NUMBER LAST TIME HEARD. THE LAST TIME ONE CRASHED THERE WAS ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. THAT CAR IS STILL THERE JUST COVERED IN DIRT AND TRASH.
For it to be left there for any length of time …. foul play most likely reason.
It has sure been there a while. I wonder who the car is registered to?
It looks like something came in through the window rather than out….I would assume a liscense plate check would provide the owner.. maybe it was stolen,,they wrecked and ran,,,
Drunk driver? No insurance? Stolen vehicle? Why wasn’t it reported at the time of occurrence? Cops can trace the car from the vin if the tag is not there. If there are no skeletons around, they/he/she must have walked away.
Probaly stolen and then wrecked.
Perps walk away after crash.
I agree, it doesn’t look like it’s been there for more than a few months. I’m no rocket scientist, but shouldn’t they be able to run tags or registration to track the owner down?
From the looks of the windshield maybe they ran into a deer?
I too would like the details of who, when and why didn’t they report it.
>>It sure doesn’t look like the car has been there for YEARS….maybe months, but not years.
What you can’t see in the photos are the trees and brush that have grown back between the car and road.
It sure doesn’t look like the car has been there for YEARS….maybe months, but not years. A few leaves on the hood doesn’t say years…..look at what time of the year it is. I can only hope that they investigate this further and find some truth behind the story.
Please keep us updated on what the outcome of this story is! Hope it doesn’t have an unhappy ending.
Sure hope this story doesn’t turn out bad. It appears that someone was ejected through the front windshield. Hope I’m wrong.
