Adult Injured, Kids Saved By Car Seats In McDavid Wreck

November 21, 2011

First responders are crediting the proper use of car seats for saving a baby and toddler from severe injuries in a single vehicle rollover Monday early afternoon in McDavid.

The accident happened about 12:15 p.m. on Highway 29 about a half mile south of Highway 164. A 25-year old female lost control of her Lincoln Towncar while northbound on Highway 29, ran off the roadway and flipped over into a concrete ditch. The female suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A 3-year old and a 3-month old in the vehicle were reportedly properly restrained in car seats and suffered no apparent injuries. All three were transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Further details were not available.

Garren, that is why mommy ALWAYS tells you and Maya, ” WE DON’T take off our seat belt.” We never know when we may wreck, and we always want to be ready. Because mommy just wouldn’t know what to do without you guys! I love you, son. We can’t wait for you to get home on Thursday! <3

I’m glad you n babies are OK.
I know Amber always put her kids in carseats
And made sure they were properly restrained!!
I am sorry for accident, yet seeing firsthand and
Experiencing firsthand that carseats and seatbelts
Make a HUGE difference!!I know of a woman who died
From no seatbelt, recently.I lived from the seatbelt
    And my children as well.
I agree it’s the law for a reason.I applaud you Amber GOD BLESS!!

God deserves all the glory in this story. Tomorrow is the two year anniversary since my son, Maddox died. So, this is already a hard time for our family. I am extremely grateful to those who stopped at the scene of the accident. To the folks who took my children out of the car, and then comforted them while I was unable to. You are truly unsung heros, and I wish I could thank you all personally.

While I am flattered on all the compliments on how my having the boys properly secured in their car seats kept them safe, I kind of think it is sad. In the fact that it is so note worthy when a parent does what they should do, every time. If that is the only message from the accident, I pray it is received by somebody! You never put your children in the car and expect to wreck, but you should ALWAYS plan as though that is the case. Greysen (3 yrs) and Grant (3 months) are no worse for the wear because of God’s mercy and their safety seats.

Thank you again to all of those who stopped. The whole thing is still foggy to me, probably from hitting my head so hard. So I am not even sure I thanked any of you.
