Two Killed, Five Injured In Early Morning I-10 Wreck

October 21, 2011

Two people — an adult and a child — were killed in an early morning wreck on I-10 in Pensacola between the Highway 29 and Pine Forest Road exits.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 43-year old Kimberly Renee Rodrigues of Pensacola was traveling west on I-10 at 4:40 a.m. in a 2008 Toyota pickup when she rear-ended a 1996 Chevrolet cargo van driven by Melissa Lynn Lyublanovits, 44, of Pensacola. The pickup rotated and came to rest across the westbound lanes of I-10, while the cargo van came to rest off the roadway.

Lovett Deshun Cummings, age 33 of Riviera Beach, Florida, who was also westbound on I-10, steered right in an attempt to miss the Toyota pickup across the roadway. Cummings lost control as her 2003 GMC SUV began to rotate. The SUV overturned and rolled over into a wooded area.  The front seat passenger, 71-year old Lovett Junior Cummings of West Palm Beach,  was pronounced dead at the scene by Escambia County EMS. Lovett Deshun Cummings II, age 11, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the middle row of seats and pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the SUV, 66-year old Beverly Dale Cummings of West Palm Beach and 4-year old Lance Lamar Cummings of Riveria Beach were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital.

Rodrigues, the driver of the pickup, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition. Lyublanovits, the driver of the cargo, received only minor injuries.

Charges are pending, according to the FHP, as their investigation continues.

At least three other people were taken to area hospitals after the multi-vehicle accident, including one that was airlifted by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital.

The accident happened shortly before 5 a.m. between the Highway 29 and Pine Forest Road exits when a pickup truck (pictured above) rear-ended a delivery truck. A sport utility vehicle was then involved in the crash. Traffic was once again moving through the area very slowly by 7 a.m.

Further details have not yet been released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

To the Cummings family, and especially to Rev. Archie Cummings: the First Lady, ministers and members of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Shelly Bay, Bermuda extend our deepest sympathies to you at a very painful time. Our prayer is that God will give to you the comfort and strength that an occasion like this pleads for. It is my hope that knowing there are people who have you on their minds and in their prayers would be of some solace to you.

To the family of Lovett Cummins & Shaun:

Lovett Sr. thank you for all of your spiritual and personal wisdom. You will never know how God used you to minister to us at the very momen that you would speak. Just the Sunday morning before, you blessed my soul as we fellowshiped together.

Shaun, you were a shining example to other youth of the church. You were always willing to participate whenever we asked anything of you. Sometimes you would greet the church visitors or lead us in prayer ever so boldly. Also, thank you for always blessing us during Sunday School review.

We will truly miss both of you, as you were the most distinguished Sons of (Richard) Allen.

    We truly love you!

My deeply heartfelt prayers goes out to Mrs. D. Cummings and the entire family on all sides.

My daughters and I became apart of the Payne Chapel AME, West Palm Beach family in May, 2011. Mr “C” (as he liked to be called) played an integral part of welcoming my wounded family each and every Sunday morning. He would voluntarily purchase breakfast food, cook it, and then stand next to the server to ensure that all was pleased and well fed. Have you ever known a cook or chef to come out into the dining room to sit, laugh, and fellowship with the patrons of the restaurant? Well, Mr. C would. In those 5 months he became a good friend and concerned father figure to my daughtgers and I. He had the utmost respect for us; Undying love and devotion to his family – especially his grandkids. May your humility speak to us continually, oh Man of God!

When I watched and spoke with Lil Shaun, he always had the glow of a preacher upon him. I will forever remember his loving, gentle spirit; and his devotion to his younger brother – always pressing Lance close to him. May our “light shine before men that they may see [our] good works” as yours did, oh Child of God!

May God bless you, keep you, and give you a expedient recovery – to every soul that was involved.

Death can come quickly, as a thief in the night. My beloved friend Mr. Cummings has departed. All of our days are numbered, known only to GOD. Mr. Cummings, and his grandson knew the Lord, and spoke openly of this often. May their souls rest in peace until we meet again. May the Cummings family ” draw near, and remember that the Lord is your strength “.

The moment I heard about this tradegy my heart sink, I screamed. Mr. Cummings was my lawn man, my godfather, my friend. He was fiesty and direct. But always a family man. So if this where his final moment was with his family I truly believed he wouldn”t have it any other way. My prayers are with Ms. Dale and the rest of the family. He will be truly missed. Jesus and your host of angels, my prayer is that you will cover this family and bring blessings to all in this time of grieve and bereavement. Prayers also for the vehicle and passengers in those involved to them and their family.

    THIS TIME
When a good friend of Greensboro, NC shared this horrid news with me a few moments ago, my heart did not sink as usual, because THIS TIME my perspective is much clearer.
THIS TIME my thoughts did not take me on a downward spiral. THIS TIME my eyes and heart looked upward bound to the God of Heaven and Earth – Jehovah Jireh, my Provider and the Provision Itself!
THIS TIME my prayers ascended immediately as I reflected on the promise of the upcoming resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.
THIS TIME I remember that HE will support the living as they bury their dead.
THIS TIME I do not stress.
THIS TIME I am at peace with death.
THIS TIME it’s all good! 2 Kings 4 (Shunamite woman)
May GOD bless the family, especially the children.

  25. Tyler Jeane on October 21st, 2011 9:23 pm

Does anyone actually think about the other people in the accident?? Renee is like a second mom to me, and a close family friend. Accidents are accidents. Its horrible when you get the news about someone close to you being involved in something fatal like this. During accidents like this everyone involved should be in everyones prayers.

SEATBELTS SEATBELTS SEATBELTS!!!!!! For gosh sakes, when are people ever going to learn!?!?!?!?! It is infuriating all the needless deaths that occur simply because people dont buckle up. Its such a senseless, preventable shame.

All we can do is pray for those left behind who will go throught the horrific pain of losing loved ones.It is too late to pray for the ones who died.TJ said it beautifully, thanks TJ for reminding us what should be the important things in our lives.

  38. tj on October 21st, 2011 9:10 am

I will be praying for this family. For those who may read this comment.. I pray that we will be ready to stand before God because whether young or old we all have a appointment with death ..a appointment no one can reschedule. Do not be soo consumed with material things that we forget we only have one soul that will spend eternity somewhere…remember the Bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth and is find almost every hotel and is the most printed book in the world for a reason…but yet we think we can do whatever we want…we think we can do things God would never do and go to heaven…I believe those who lost their lives are in a better place..Pray for God’s protection and guidance.

  39. Lifendason on October 21st, 2011 8:14 am

Prayers are certainly said this morning for these folks, especially for those who lost their lives. Lord, comfort the families of each person and may your will be done…in Jesus name, Amen.
