Pine Forest Pounds Tate
October 1, 2011
The Pine Forest Eagles pounded the Tate Aggies 63-0 Friday night at Pete Gindl Stadium in Cantonment.
Pine Forest was ahead 35-0 by the end of the first quarter and up 56-0 at the half. Tate’s downward spiral began early — the Aggies fumbled the opening snap, with the Eagles recovering at Tate’s 12. After one more play, the Eagles were up 7-0.
The winless Tate Aggies will travel to Milton next Friday night for another 1-6A matchup.

You are both sad and clueless. All of you that think the 1980s are just some new coach away are clueless. Here’s the hard truth…TATE WILL NEVER BE A FOOTBALL POWER HOUSE AGAIN…not so long as students have the freedom to transfer. You old timers that what to relive the past (your sad old past) can keep blaming the principal or the coach or the AD but its no more their fault then we can blame you for finding something more meaningful then what you and Tate did back in 1982…..I will say this….our boys (those that don’t transfer) do play hard and work everyday. God bless them

I’ll be happy to coach the team. The only condition is we do my way or no way. I’m not answering to administrators or the quarterback club on how the football program is run. Madison didn’t answer to anyone when we won state in 80. Lou Holtz and Bear Bryant didn’t answer to anyone either. My only stipulation for me is you don’t have to pay me one red penny unless we win state. With that I get a million dollars when we win state.
@Sam…well said. It is about the boys. They read these posts and they hear the snide comments made by this community. I’m amazed at the negative comments I’ve read but not one person has offered to step up and coach.
My son plays on the varsity squad and is a senior. He has been with these coaches for 4 years now and has enjoyed every minute of it. It’s not all about the coaches – they can’t play the game for the boys. Now I’m not saying the coaching isn’t part of it but let’s give these guys some credit they do work every day with these kids and even some of the coaches work extra with these boys on the side. It’s hard to have a full varsity squad with all juniors & seniors when you don’t have enough of them to fill the team and have to bring up 10th grades to play varsity. This would be the fault of the school district allowing players to transfer to other schools not in their district when other coaches are recruiting players. I know for a fact 2 of the players who are startes for Pine Forest were at Tate until this past summer when they were recruited to come to Pine Forest. How is that right???? It’s not and we as parents should not allow this to happen.
On a brighter note – let’s not forget what it’s all about “the boys”. No matter how rough a season we are having we still need to support them – they work hard every day at practice and have not given up yet. We all need to rally around these kids and show them we support them. Let’s go AGGIES!!!!
To “thetruth”: You are right about the spirit dying off at Tate. I was there when Madison was head coach. In 1982 Madison took us to an Alabama practice. We all got to meet Bear Bryant there. There was a lot of school spirit then. And while we can’t relive December of 1980 when Tate won State (I was there) The game itself has not changed. Those coaching and playing it have.
Johnny Hawkins did not bail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He stood up to the administration and they made him resign. Yes he put in for anther job but only when he was basically forced to.
The Spirit of Tate is being ruined ? I dont know how old you are but news flash the spirit of Tate has been gone for a long long time. All of these old timers remember Madison and the Glory Days, but that Tate died when Madison was forced out. Realize that times change. There is no spirit of Tate and hasnt for a long time. and Johnny Hawkins had the job for 4 months and then started applying at other schools for coaching jobs. So no he wont be the head coach, he didnt even make it to the first game before he bailed. I dont know what the answer is, but trying to relive 1980 isnt the answer at all , and Johnny Hawkins isnt the answer. Maybe a young energetic coach with high intensity is the answer. Maybe the young coach that left to go to West Florida High as the Defensive Coordinator. Apparantly that is working for him, 5-0 for the Jags.
Very sad to see this quailty of play from Tate. The 63-0 is probably a school record for highest total score loss in a game. Johnny Hawkins was at Tate for a while and disapeared.
Here is the ideal coaching staff if you can get them together:
Johnny Hawkins-Head Coach
Scotty Madison-Offensive Coordinator
Mike Thorsen-Defensive Coordinator
That’s all you need.
@ get real
you not be one of us sitting in the stands watching these boys hold thier heads down…i feel sorry for them boys..they deserve better…i agree we need to stop at the top…but someone else who blamed previous players for his team failures has no one to blame now but himself…DO THE RIGHT THING!!!
hold your heads of tate aggies PLAYERS…i say these things in support of you!!!
Tate has always been a school known for its great sports program. Come on —something must change. Their are still great athletes at Tate. Something is wrong! Probably the administration who can’t see fit to fire the head coach. So —-start at the top and work down. The players and fans do not deserve this fiasco.
No need to sit here and bash Coach…He couldn’t run the team right if he wanted to! Start with the principal and work all the way down. Tate needs a rebuild with everyone up there period!
in 2 words…………STEP DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you know anything about TATE, then you know the SPIRIT OF TATE is being ruined. I love TATE, the community and this is the saddest thing I have seen.
It appears that there could a head coach from Escambia who is going to be looking for work, will he do?
Any other Tate moms, dads or grads getting tired of this?
I hope the athletics director is seriously considering other coaching options next year.
