Northview Beats Jay 56-7

October 8, 2011

The Northview Chiefs beat the Jay Royals 56-7 Friday night in Jay in the district-opener for both teams.

For Northview quarterback Brandon Sheets, it was a good six-touchdown kind of night — scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 9, 73, 10 and 30 yards. His first TD of the night was set up by LaMikal Kyles with a 55-yard run to Jay’s 9-yard line. Sheets’ 73-yard touchdown was perhaps the play of the night — with Jay closing in behind the line of scrimmage, he recovered his own fumble, and ran a lengthy back and forth tour of the most of the field on the way to the end zone.

“He can obviously make something out of nothing a lot of times, and that’s what he did tonight,” Northview Head Coach Sid Wheatley said of Sheets’ performance. “He’s such a threat to run the ball also.”

Sheets scored again on a 14-yard run in the second and found Austin Albritton with a 5-yard pass. In the third Andrew Farrow was in for Northview on a 7-yard touchdown run, and Kyles returned a fourth quarter kickoff 80 yards for the Chiefs’ final touchdown of the night.

Jay’s lone score came with a block punt from the Chiefs’ 19 returned by Justice Garcia in the third quarter.

Sheets accumulated 166 yards for Northview, while Jay’s Ricky Cofield picked up 113 yards.

Northview was coming off a touch loss last week to 5A Gulf Breeze, and Wheatley said the focus of practice all week had been district game number one.

“Tonight was a great start for us. I challenged them to play 48 minutes with a lot of hunger, a lot of desire and just a passion for football,” Wheatley said the win for Northview (3-2, 1-0). “I told them what we are playing for — our future — depends on our district schedule.”

The Chiefs will be off next week, and Wheatley said it will be a good week of practice followed by “game mode” the following week as Northview prepares for District 1-1A foe Freeport at home in Bratt on October 21.

“Those guys are going to play hard, they are awfully well coached,” Wheatley said Freeport. “It’s going to be a challenge, but I really thing our kids are going to get up for it.”

The Jay Royals (2-4, 0-1) will travel to Cottondale next Friday night.

Wendy and Wannabe. The now starting QB is actually the 3rd or 4th string QB on the team. The future lies in the hands of the kid on JV who QB’d in the spring jamboree. He’ll be the starter next year and Jay wont be happy with 2 wins a year. A good QB will definitely help running back #4, who has been carrying the team all year. It appears the coaches have given up this year so no reason to expect anything from the players. GO ROYALS 2012.

Normally you only hear positive comments from me on here such as “Go Royals, hold your heads up, etc.”. Just happen to catch me on a bad day. This message is for Royal Wannabe: The quarterback club, who your daddy is, etc. has nothing to do with who the quarterback is for the Royals. You earn the position by putting in hours beyond hours, being a leader with a good head on your shoulders, being dedicated to your team, working your tale off doing what your coach ask you to do. That’s how MY son earned the position as quarterback. It’s a tough job! Two words for you, Wannabe, hiding behind a fake name, GO ROYALS!

Mr. Reality is a clown. You’re insulting the entire PHS team, staff, and school by challenging a 1-A school. lol How gutless and cowardly. Thats like the New England Patroits telling Alabama or LSU to come play them and “see where their team stands” You’re and idiot.

Congrats to the Chiefs. I hope yall go all the way. I wish yall the best of luck.

Mr. Reality needs a reality check. They are someone who doesn’t know or understand the game of football. Myself or PHS do not agree with the idiotic ideas of Mr. Reality. Schools are broken down into diffferent classifications to maintain parrity. So support your program and don’t hate another.

PHS and West Tech. do have the various academies. They do not recruit players. Students have to apply to the various academies and they have to be accepted into them based on their grades and other criteria. Once accepted into the program they have to maintain a certain GPA. to stay in the program.

To NHS players: do not pay any attention to all idiots who post negative stuff about your program. Practice and play hard to reach your goals. Good Luck on the rest of your season.

Keep up the good work JHS. Join the Quarterback Club and your family member will be a starter. Heck, maybe even the QB. New coach, same ole story. Play the best players and leave the daddy ball to the JV.

Congrats to the chiefs on the big win. Keep up the work and get ready for Freeport now. Don’t let people get under your skin with negative comments. Let’s go chiefs.

Mr Reality sounds like someone who has limited knowledge of the game of football and why there is a difference in classifications. I think you know what happens when you play out of classification. Why do you even let Northview control your thought process? Support your team as you should and don’t lower yourself to challenge a 1A school to play. Me thinks you need a reality check!

Mr. REALITY Pensacola is a HUGE city. Century, Molino,WalnutHill,Atmore, and Bratt make pensacola if you would combine each little city. Last but not least STOP HATING, The End! :)

  10. Centuryboy on October 9th, 2011 7:05 pm

@Mr. Reality well dnt try to compare a 1A school to a 6A school. Northview is a small school and we can’t help we have great athletes. And we can help that we are a 1A school that dominating our classification. We no PHS is a great football team buy dnt compare Northview to a 6A school. U should be congratulating not player hating.

  11. Mr. Reality on October 9th, 2011 3:02 pm

All I did was say if you want to see where you program really is come play PHS. That stands for any team. PHS would play them but the travel expense is great. We have to save the money for when we travel to St. Aug again this year.

  12. CenturyBoy on October 9th, 2011 11:37 am

To Mr Reality: stop hating on Northview. Why dnt Pensacola High play St. Thomas Aquainas and see where there program is like. Why hate on a small school because they won a district game by a blow out. And for all u haters y’all can hook it. The score was 28-0 first quarter that’s when the starters came out the game. We can help jay suck so bad. And northview got big thing ahead of them. We focused on Freeport so we not gne let u haters and non-believers get to us.

  13. Mr. Reality on October 9th, 2011 11:01 am

550 students? LOL. Sounds like they need to close that school then. How much is the county spending per student to run a school for 500 kids? From what I hear NV is not a “small” team like Jay anymore. Look at the score.

  14. Chiefs Fan on October 9th, 2011 7:08 am

Mr. Reality needs a reality check. Pensacola is a 6A school with nearly 1,800 students and it recruits players from all over the county under the ruse of “academies” – sort of like what West Florida Tech does. So no, these schools are not anywhere near the same in reality, since NHS only has about 550 students and that’s probably a high estimate. PHS will continue to get its reality as it plays against other schools in its classification and this year Tate doesn’t count.

  15. Mr. Reality on October 9th, 2011 1:11 am

Hey if Northview wants to really see where their program stands come play Pensacola High….We’ll play our 9th and 10th graders ONLY!!!!

i dont think Jay was a push over, I just think our Guys played some GOOD football and I believe they will take Freeport ! LETS GO CHIEFS !

  17. Molino-Anon on October 8th, 2011 10:20 pm

Why even let a game go on that long with such a blow out… by half time if the score is a total skunk, call the game. That is just ridiculous.

  18. Chief Girl on October 8th, 2011 5:33 pm

Great game last night in Jay! Shout out to the players, coaching staff, band, fans, William, and anyone else I did not mention!

Coach Wheatly, let the team enjoy last night’s win and when Monday rolls around get your players ready because Freeport isn’t going to be a push over! Freeport beat Baker last night 17 to 14 in a game that was said to have gone into overtime on WAAZ 104.7 (Crestview). Remember, Freeport still holds what should be our district trophy from last year!
