Tate won its last state championship in 1980.
“Does anyone remember when Tate had a championship team, or a winning season for that matter?”
In 2000 we were 5A North Florida Regional Champs. We were beat in the state semi-finals which is one game from the state title. They called us the “Road Warriors” since we played every playoff game that year on the road.
I have to agree with Molino Tater – I am also a Tate grad from 89 and remember our football seasons back then weren’t so great either but we still had some Aggie spirit and went to the games anyway. The student section was always packed and we always made it fun whether we won or loss. There doesn’t seem to be any school spirit now and these boys are still playing their hearts out which is sad. I have a son who plays for Tate and is a senior this year – he loves the sport as well as the coaching staff and has enjoyed his 4 years in the program at Tate.
With this being said – I have to also agree with Big Dog – it’s not all about the coaching staff but what they have at Tate to work with. We have a great group of guys on the varsity squad but also a lot of 10th graders with not a lot of experience playing varisty due to the “school district” who has allowed kids in our area to go to other schools after being recruited by coaches in this area. That is just wrong on so many levels I don’t even know where to start. I think these coaches have forgotten why they got into coaching which is the kids. The coaches at Tate care more about these boys then just winning they want to teach them the basics of being decent human beings as well.
Let’s just stick with our boys and keep giving them all the support they need. They haven’t given up so we shouldn’t either. I actually saw some fight in them this past Friday night and we did get some points on the board which is a positive spin on the season. GO AGGIES!!!!!!
Wouldn’t it be nice if the fine young athletes in each district played for the high school in their district. Instead they are going anywhere “playing time” is being promised.
I have a son on Tates freshman team. They won Thursday night as did the JV.
I have faith in the coaches at Tate. They are working hard everyday.
I do not “coach” from the bleachers. It is in my experience those that do have never given their time freely to work with young people without the lure of a paycheck.
Im just sick of the coach bashing. Just saying.
Poor guys. I know they try hard. Does anyone remember when Tate had a championship team, or a winning season for that matter? I went there in the late 80’s and the program was a serious disappointment even then. Most everyone would leave after the marching bands performed during half-time. Perhaps it’s time for precious school resources be put towards something else.
Folks really do feel bad for Tate because of its inept football program, and there’s not a win in the near future either with Pensacola High next week. Who picked this game for homecoming?!
