Frontier Experiences Internet Outage

October 3, 2011

Frontier Communications internet customers across the area were without service for about six hours Monday.

Business and residential customers in the Walnut Hill, Bratt, Molino and Atmore areas report that their internet service failed about 9:10 Monday morning. Service returned about 3:15, according to the company.

Karen Miller, spokesperson for Frontier, said early Monday afternoon that the outage was the result of an AT&T cable that was cut west of Atmore.

Frontier high speed internet customers have been plagued with numerous outages — some many hours in length — over the past several months. The company has said that most of those outages were caused by problems with AT&T, the provider for Frontier’s connection to the internet.

Hughesnet is extremely slow, expensive, and doesn’t meet my needs. My parents have it because they live in an area it is the only option. If someone wants to swap to them, I advice them to talk to people that have it first. I know a few people that have it, and they all pray for the day more reliable options are available, especially if they are gamers like my husband.

Don’t count on chamber standing up for local business as to frontier.

  3. OldPhoneRep on October 4th, 2011 11:39 pm

In Atmore and most of Northern Esc Co. you do not have a choice of local carriers for a landline and dsl line. If you are in territory where BellSouth is the local phone carrier you can choose. However, even if you change your local and internet carrier through a landline, it is still the same lines, cable and trunk line coming in to your home; they are just leased by different providers. Complaining to the Atmore Chamber will do no good, nor will it do any good to complain to the Public Service Commission in either FL or AL. North Escambia.com needs to do a story on the history of telephony in the area, and find out who we can actually complain to, in order to get some results.

there is Hughesnet it is by satellite and it never goes out unless a very very very very bad storm comes is very very fast. not like so make the move today to HUGHESNET

  5. Not looking forward to the move. on October 4th, 2011 5:18 pm

Has anyone thought of bringing these issues up to the Chamber of Commerce in Atmore? Frontier is a member there. Maybe if enough people complained to the Chamber, they would put pressure on Frontier or look to bring another service into the area. I would suggest sending them an email but they get their service through Frontier so they probably would never receive it.

Frontier is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau so can’t complain there.

Apparently Frontier needs a new line of business, because communications is defenatly not their thing !!!

This is beyond rediculous now. Next they will be (like British Rail) with excuses like can’t work because of falling leaves and the suns glare is to bright.

As the ols saying goes “a bad workman always blames his tools”!!!!

  7. Jane on October 4th, 2011 6:41 am

They keep offering highspeed internet…I think they better get their internet working better first! I want WIFI in Molino!

I was thinking today about what would happen if everyone in my development went with the lowest bidder between Dish and Direct TV, I’d be willing to bet that they’d make some price concessions if a development full of customers was at stake. I’d be willing to bet that Frontier would also make concessions for development full of customers, if we only had another phone company to keep them honest.

The fiber was cut today on hwy 31 just west of atmore. This is the second time the state contractors have cut it while doing the lane expansion for the industrial park.

  15. Jess on October 3rd, 2011 7:43 pm

Would love to Joe, but they aren’t offered in our area.

  18. Hughesnet on October 3rd, 2011 5:48 pm

i did not know Frontier was out i was at home on my internet aka (HUGHESNET) it never stops working it is highspeed internet by satellite it does not stop working unless a very very very bad storm comes it is very very very FAST

  19. Molino-Anon on October 3rd, 2011 5:06 pm

This is how many times now someone has cut a cable in Atmore? Do these people not know where the trunk is in the ground?! C’mon this is the excuse every time? At least that was the excuse the last 2 times!

Companies like Frontier is what will keep civilization in the dark ages. Should be a law for phone/internet companies to come into small areas, take over, where there’s little to NO other options for customers. They do what they want because they know we either pay it and deal with it or go without like a 3rd world country. It’s like a monopoly on the network for rural areas and Frontier is in MANY rural towns across the U.S.

  20. Jessica on October 3rd, 2011 3:35 pm

I pay my bill to frontier. If I’m not receiving the services promised, it is THEIR fault. I’m more sick of their excuses then the outages. Figure out how it keeps happening and FIX IT!

  21. Atmore G on October 3rd, 2011 3:34 pm

This does it.. I am dropping Frontier today.. Depending on them is like depending on a 20 year old used car with 300,000 miles on it every day.. Funny I should say that, because a lot of Frontier’s equipment (vehicles, electronics etc.) is probably obsolete and worn out too..

  22. whatever! on October 3rd, 2011 3:28 pm

    Dear Frontier,
Most of your internet and phone customers were having problems again this morning. We really really don’t like it. Please fix it right this time.

  23. To on October 3rd, 2011 2:51 pm

Why does Frontier keep blameing AT&T. I have Frontier and I have AT&T on my iPad. I get alot more out of AT&T cause when Frontier’s service turns sour I turn Frontier off and swich to AT&T. Getting to pages 15 times faster. Matter in fact on frontier it takes a lot out of my battery it will be at 100% when I start downloading, and I wait and wait at 96 % battery life its still trying to download it. I swich to AT&T and its downloaded before I can push the button to close settings.

  24. Lyall Kress on October 3rd, 2011 2:50 pm

That’s funny, because my AT&T MIS circuit is still up….

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

  26. sam on October 3rd, 2011 12:14 pm

i have at&t dsl here in century. no problem. our service is out of flomaton which is a satellite off brewton. never have trouble.

  27. Stokely on October 3rd, 2011 12:08 pm

This is getting old! Thank goodness for Verizon! These constant outages are extremely damaging to business who rely heavily on the internet.

  28. hshg on October 3rd, 2011 11:38 am

This is getting really, really old.

  29. Frictionahainstthemachine on October 3rd, 2011 11:33 am

More shoddy service and high billing…makes it hard to do business when u depend on Internet. Att down in Brewton as well.

    10:35 AM

Residential service appears out in Atmore. Unable to contact customer service due to
    “high volume of calls”

  31. talstar on October 3rd, 2011 10:52 am

The best way to help with their problems is for more competition to enter the picture.

  32. sniper on October 3rd, 2011 10:49 am

What’s new. Once again I find myself relying on my mobile hotspot for internet at work. Frontier needs to step up to the plate. It’s getting OLD!

  33. Laughing but not funny on October 3rd, 2011 10:46 am

Maybe we should stage a huge areawide internet walkout

  34. Laura on October 3rd, 2011 10:35 am

I called Frontier and they said the outage stems from an outage in Mississippi.
