So they got 5 people off the streets, OK, cleaned up 2 tons of trash, OK. I bet there is more than ten times as much of both left on the streets. Cleaning up Century will not happen in a day, it will take at least a generation. First start with substantial jobs, not just jobs for a servant class, good paying full time employment. Attract people to move to Century with the sleepy country feel and opportunity to make money. For those that say “it is the persons own fault for not having a job”, I really don’t know how you could make such a baseless statement. How many of you are under-employed? How many of you are unemployed, but have been looking for a job. How many of you have had to take a job that payed less than 50% of what you have been accustomed to making. I have a degree in Physics and have been looking for a job in Esc county pretty much all year. Because I don’t want to make bombs (weapons systems are pretty much where the jobs are for my degree around here) I am under-employed. I was unemployed, choosing to wait for a meaningful job, instead of taking a servant class job paying under $10 hr, which would take up valuable job searching time. Where there are educated working people, there is less crime, look it up. I grew up in Century, and it has gotten worse than when I was there. Educate people, give them a good job, allow them to buy affordable housing, and they will have no reason to commit crime.

absolutely, that way you get the less aware first

  5. Everett on October 18th, 2011 11:54 pm

This is good and worthwhile. But do we really need to announce it ahead of time?

  6. military dude on October 18th, 2011 12:46 pm

Do you really think that the military has the jurisdiction to come into a town and just arrest folks? Come on, they were students from the technical school helping out with the clean up (garbage).

  7. Big Bopper on October 18th, 2011 8:21 am

Your going to need 5 more of these sweeps to get all the garbage out of
the town, and your going to need 50 more to get the two legged
garbage out of the town. That will only happen if they stop running
their mouth’s in advance of the sweep and it sure looks like nobody
is listening. Dog and Pony Show – whoop whoop!

    Call in the Federal Boys!

    You are Spot On !!!!!

Haters is just playing the “victim card”. Oh Poor Me !!!!!!

Get off your butt and MAKE things happen rather than

I am waiting for NorthEndVoter to come on, and start bashing Sheriff Morgan. Nuthin like a successful mission to put a sour grape back in it’s box. Great Job ECSO.

  10. ArmyCptswife on October 18th, 2011 5:56 am

    @ HATERS:

If you have no job and no money, they have grants for you to go to college. There is no excuse for not getting an education, if you are poor, and pulling yourself out of that situation. You have to want it, and go for it. PERIOD I have seen it many times. Jobs are not going to come looking for you. So if you think selling drugs is a legitimate excuse for not having a job, well then, we can all see your character. Check into grant money or student loans for a local JC or trade school. Help yourself and your community.

This is something Escambia Alabama should look into, especially around Flomaton.

  12. Jane on October 18th, 2011 5:10 am

Good job ESCO!!! These clean sweeps may actually start making a difference in our communities! Get involved in a Neighborhood watch and learn more about our laws and waht can be done!

  13. Tired on October 18th, 2011 12:16 am

Love the hair girlie…LOL……. With all the notice of this clean sweep, there were actually 5 morans that still got arrested?? LOL!!!

  14. DUMB on October 17th, 2011 11:27 pm

Wow superb job guys a whole 5 arrests! Go ECSD, Military and everyone else involved. Great advertising. I’ve never been to college but I have more common sense than to advertise that I am coming to get you. It’s like hey kids let’s play hide and seek. Little Johnny you go hide behind the tree and Little Suzie you go hide in the sandbox. Now let me go get the neighborhood and tell them where you are at. I am almost positive we will not find you guys. This is so much fun!

    REGARDING:
“i have never been pulled over by a cop who was nice”

Never give up. Keep getting pulled over and the odds are eventually you will meet a law enforcement officer who is nice to a law breaker such as yourself.

    to learning lessons

“NOTHING FROM NOTHING LEAVES NOTHING. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHH ”

I guess that’s ONE way to advertise the effectiveness of whatever your product is.

Why does the military have to come to Century to clean it up? Are the locals so lazy they expect someone else to do EVERYTHING for them?

  18. cut n dry on October 17th, 2011 9:26 pm

so many of you think that everything is cut n dry. like the law needs a reason to arrest people. i have never been pulled over by a cop who was nice. i understand they have a hard job but because i’m doing 8mph over the speed limit that gives them the right to talk to me like i am a criminal. our law enforcement is way out of hand. they will plant drugs on people to get an arrest on someone who they feel is a drug dealer but just can’t catch them in the act. and that came from the mouth of one of there own!!!! we as citizens give them the power to do there job and if they don’t start treating people with a little more respect, you may see us take that power from them. there is way more pissed off citizens then there is police, remember that!

  19. HATERS on October 17th, 2011 9:09 pm

You feel so sorry for the low number of people arrested???????Half, well must i say over half of you talking have jobs thats why you want 1/4 of century in jail!!! Maybe if you had a job with the DP maybe it would have went through like you wanted.NOT!!!!!You have so much to say about century and probably don’t RESIDE IN CENTURY!!!!BUT WHAT IS A HUNGRY PERSON TO DO WITHOUT A JOB,WITH BILLS,WITH KIDS,AND A FAMILY?????WOULD YOU RATHER THEM ROB AND KILL OR SELL DRUGS??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTHING FROM NOTHING LEAVES NOTHING. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHH THEY CAME IN AND SUPPOSIVELY CLEANED UP CENTURY LOL!!!!!OKAY WHATS NEXT?????JOBS I HOPE. NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THAT:)

  20. ArmyCptswife on October 17th, 2011 6:06 pm

Jerry, as you know my mother (Nadine Mccaw) worked very hard for that town. The whole town doesn’t need to be arrested, BUT that was an EXTREMELY low number with as many drug dealers as there are in that town. I would like for someone to come in and clean house the way it needs to be, and stop trying to do a little just to pacify. The town needs people to come together for a better community, but there is only so much you can do without local enforcement to come in and help! I stand behind my opinion on this clean up. While it was good it could have been a lot better! Oh, and love the Charlie Brown reference. It’s my email address.

  21. Jerry Simmons on October 17th, 2011 5:08 pm

Just wondering – are some of you folks wanting the whole population of Century dragged off to jail? Why on earth are you moaning about a low number of arrests?
    Quoting Charlie Brown, “Good grief!”

  22. ArmyCptswife on October 17th, 2011 5:04 pm

Had they not announced it they could have arrested about 1/4 of the town on drug charges… Seriously, Century is infested with drugs.
On the flip side, I’m happy about the clean up because we all know that it could be a little more clean around there.
I just wish they would have a sting operation without announcing it all over the news media.

  24. Lol on October 17th, 2011 3:48 pm

It was a slow day and a small amount of ppl arrested because they had the “clean sweep” broadcasted all over the news, on northescambia.com, word of mouth, etc. Oh, well try again mr. policeman them century residents done got smart on yall too!!! LOL

  25. Kosher Dave on October 17th, 2011 3:36 pm

Really. Announce there will be a clean sweep, and this is what happens. If you really want a “CLEAN” sweep then do not announce it. Glad to see that hundreds of pounds of trash was removed though. Nice job on that part.
