Crime Drops In Florida

October 23, 2011

The number of violent crimes in Florida dropped 3.2 percent during the first half of the year while certain non-violent crimes dropped by 1.8 percent, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported Friday.

FDLE tracks certain crimes that are reported to the FBI as part of the national Uniform Crime Reporting program.

The statistics for the first 6 months of 2011 showed a 3.1 percent drop in the number of murders, a 4.3 percent decrease in robbery, and a marked decrease of nearly 10 percent in auto theft.

One group of tracked crimes, forcible sex offenses, saw a slight increase of 1.1 percent, FDLE reported.

“These first six months’ results are a strong indicator of what we will see for 2011, and the downward trend of Florida’s crime numbers is a positive sign,” said FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey.

The report also noted that five police officers were killed in the line of duty in the first half of the year. The half-year report only reflects actual number of crimes, not the crime rate, which would factor in population. The crime rate is reported on an annual basis.

Hello Citizen. I am not offended. I am glad that Sheriff Morgan’s crime fighting technique consist of more than a shooter with a Delta H BAR. We now have a Sheriff we can be proud of, not some self serving individual that thinks the LAW does not apply to himself. There is a time to kill, and a time to give the mentally ill, a chance to come out with their hands up. Cottage Hill will never forget the horror of the previous sheriff. God Speed Sheriff Morgan.

429scj, I’m only repeating what Morgan has said in his prior attempts and final win of the office. The past Sheriffs are just that, the past. You sound more like him every day. He has a really bad habit of trying to bring up the past about others so the light doesn’t shine on him. He never takes any blame. I stand behind what I’ve said from the start. He doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. I’m sorry if that offends you.

Hello Citizen. As much as you disdain Sheriff Morgan and his efforts, I wince to think of the things you must say about his predecessor. I hope you show up at the town hall meeting next month. I hate comedians, but I do love a good spectacle. Godspeed Sheriff Morgan.

Jim, call Sheriff Morgan. He specializes in trash pickups. Did his Clean Sweep not take care of your problem down there? He should have ran for the office of Sheriff of Sanitation? He seems to think that if he picks up all the trash, the dopers, drug dealers and shooters will all go away. Please elect someone else for the job next year that’s been a real Law Enforcement Officer.
