Copper Thief Strikes Community Center
October 16, 2011
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a copper thief hit the Davisville Community Center on Highway 97.
Community center managers discovered Saturday that both of the central air conditioning units at the facility had been destroyed by a thief and that stripped out copper coils. The theft reportedly happened sometime during the last week.
The incident is under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. A crime scene technician responded to the scene Saturday, dusting for fingerprints and collecting evidence.
Early estimates are that the theft could cost the county from $4,000 to 5,000 in damage and replacement costs.
In July, a copper thief struck at the Byrneville Community Center, removing the copper coils from one of three air units located just feet from the community center’s playground. That theft cost Escambia County taxpayers $2,345. There were no arrests reported in that case.
Anyone with information about the theft should contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

If you cut off their hands it would take less time to print them if they are arrested. Just print the stubs not each finger.
They will probably sell it to nearest local scap yard and get away with it also.
well I guess it is good that the county installed camera video systems on the historic buildings last year. every car & truck driving in can be seen. as well as any person around the building. Perhaps the theif will turn themselves in and recieve a leser sentence or anyone who knows who did it can collect the “crime stoppers” reward money.
this is our community we need to take it back!
Haha….cut off the thumbs ,, i say cut up to the wrist bone , then for sure they will not steel anything.. ya, i know then they will not be able to work ,,o well put them on welfare like half the other people around here….evidently they are not holding down a job anyhow .
Its our tax dollars, maybe we need to pay more attention and help catch these guys.
Spend our taxes housing them?
When they steal from the community centers, they steal from everybody in the community.
If they’ll steal from everybody, they’ll steal from anybody.
Who’s next?
When they catch these guys they need to cut off there thumbs. Hard to steal if you don’t have those!
