Football Teams Honor Fallen Marine LCpl Travis Nelson
September 28, 2011
Several North Escambia football teams are honoring the memory of fallen Marine LCpl Travis Nelson for the remainder of the season.
The Northview High, Ernest Ward Middle and Northwest Escambia football teams will wear his initials “TN” on the helmets of each player. The football-shaped initial stickers were donated by Ronnie Cloud of the Alabama Wing House in Atmore.
LCpl. Nelson, who grew up in Bratt, was killed in action August 18 in Afghanistan, five weeks after being deployed as an infantry rifleman. His parents, Beckie and Scott Nelson, reside in Bratt. Their daughter is a cheerleader at Ernest Ward Middle School.

Dear Mr. Nelson
I knew your son very well, we were really good friends. I remember him always talking about the fish he would catch when he went fishing. Anyways I just wanted to say that I was very proud to know your son and that I wish he was here right now. He was a good marine and a even better friend.
sincerely

I think this is very patriotic of our schools and football players, this is a true honor !
Kudos, Mr. Cloud! Very proud of these schools for their participation
Mr. Nelson, it both an honor and privilege!!
Travis Nelson didn’t attend Northview and he left the county with his family to attend Pace in the eighth grade. Is Pace High going to display this sticker?
Mr. Cloud, I would like to thank you for your dedication in honoring Travis. We will be coming by the Al. Wing House to personally thank you for your support.
Scott, Beckie and Family
Thankyou. This sent chills throughout my body as it was unexpectedly taking place over the loud speaker at the game. It is always difficult to know how to act during times like this. A sense of pride so deep for Travis that I want to strut and on the other hand the feeling of loss for our son so deep I want to cry. All I can say is that the two counties and throughout both states, the people have been magnificent. Travis and our family have been honored with such respect. The Southern American is still true at heart. It is very obvious that the people deep down are true to their country, friends and family. Thank you for your continued support, God Bless each and every one of you.
