Competency Hearing Set For Molino Pharmacy ‘Underwear Bandit’ Suspect

September 7, 2011

A competency hearing has been set for a  Molino man accused of robbing a local pharmacy last year while wearing underwear on his head. Joseph Daniel Flowers, now 57, will appear in court October 27 to learn if he is mentally competent to stand trial.

Flowers is facing multiple charges for the September 20, 2010, robbery of Scott’s Pharmacy, including  robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm in a pharmacy, aggravated battery  and wearing a mask while committing a felony. Multiple drug possession charges were later filed against Flowers in connection with the case.

Flowers allegedly robbed the pharmacy while wearing a bathrobe, slippers, yellow kitchen gloves and underwear on his head. He has remained in the Escambia County Jail after a November 2010 arrest for failing to appear in court.

The getaway car driver in the robbery, 24-year old Krystal Lynn Collins, was found guilty of armed robbery with a firearm and a half dozen felony drug charges. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

    REGARDING:
” he is not a bad guy you really shouldn’t judge anyone ”

You are what you do; you do what you are.

A person who points a gun at a girl’s head and threatens to kill her is the kind of person who would point a gun at a girl’s head and threaten to kill her. That kind of person is NOT “not a bad guy”. He is an armed robber and self-professed killer wannabe. Defend him to your heart’s content but in your heart you know better.

    David for reality

I agree with you all that he deserves to be punished, but I do know from others, that this guy definitely has a loose screw. He was prank calling my sister at work in Molino to the extent that the cops had to get involved. He didn’t know her other than seeing her at her work when he came in. He has always been a weird character-and yes everyone knew he was on some major drugs and has been for a long time. He would really give you the creeps just standing near him. I think if this wouldn’t have happened, something much worse would have. So this was probably a blessing in disguise for all the Molino residents. Guess he won’t be using the phone much anymore…..

To me thats a waste of time….he knew what he was doing & why he was doing it…he knows the difference between right from wrong..just because he may have a mental illness does not give him an excuse for what he did…IF so then I should be able to get away w/a bunch of crimes…just sayin’!!
