Cantonment Man Seriously Injured In High Speed Crash
September 16, 2011
A Cantonment man is in serious condition following an early morning crash on County Road 97.
Derrick T. McDaniel, 23, was northbound at a high rate of speed on County Road 97 in Cantonment about 1:50 a.m Friday when he attempted to pass a vehicle that had slowed to make a lawful turn onto Arena Road. McDaniel’s 2003 Ford Mustang struck the side of a 2008 Mazda driven by Sarah Lynn Dority of Pensacola. McDaniel’s Mustang overturned twice, hitting a tree. The tree traveled through the passenger compartment of the vehicle as he was ejected from the vehicle.
McDaniel was airlifted to Baptist Hospital by LifeFlight.
Dority received minor injuries in the crash. Her passenger, 24-year old William C. Ramey of Cantonment, was not injured.
Charges against McDaniel are pending blood alcohol results, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mary you are so right. I know the victims of the purge car and it’s people like derrick that ruin families and innocent lives. I hope he gets what he deserves!
Praying for you Derrick!
it doesnt really mattter why he was in a hurry or if he was “under the influence of something” or if “alcohol was a factor” , all that matters is that he is okay! no need to be rude and call him out about something! people always get on here and point out the negatives , when there is no reason to , some comments are better left unsaid. he already has enough to deal with!
<3 you derrick , and im praying everything works out for the best. you know you always got a family that will stick by your side no matter what! keep your head up!
At 1:50 am, what’s the hurry?
Why do sooo many people speed around this area?? Is there something sooo important that you must put others @ risk by speeding? The answer is NO! If you are late for work/school they would rather have you come in late then not @ all!! You know where you are going & what time you have to be there..plan accordingly!!!!! As for this 1..I guess they are doing bloodwork to see if “alcohol was a factor”..It seems that he was probably “under the influence of something”..I’m glad the people in the other car are OK!! I hope Mr. McDaniel is ok & the judge gives him what he so deserves!!!!
Praying for you Derrick!! Slow down folks!!!
You’re in my prayers Derrick. Love ya.
Our prayers are with you. May GOD take care of all involved.
