Cantonment Man Charged With Abusing 2 Young Girls

September 13, 2011

A 29-year old Cantonment man is jailed charged with the sexual battery of two young girls.

Leon Nathaniel Harris of Madrid Road was booked into the Escambia County Jail on two felony counts of custodial sexual battery on a victim under 12.

According to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report, the two girls would spend the night at Harris’ trailer, during which time the abuse would occur. The abuse was reported to have started as early as 2003.

Information released by the Sheriff’s Office does not specify the nature of  the family or custodial relationship between Harris and the victims.

Harris was being held early Tuesday in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

This is crazy! I grew up with this family. Never would have thought this! My thoughts n prayers are with you all. It must be hard for the family to have a brother that messes with his own nieces. Hate it for the family he also has a wife and children of his own I know its got to be hard for both sides! May god be with you all.

@Carol, How can you blame the parents? These girls were staying the night @ there uncles house. With his own to girls, which is there cousins. So what’s wrong with that? How is it the parents fault? He was a trusted family member and lived round the corner. When I was a kid. I always stayed @ my uncles house. As do my own children do. Your a very stupid person to blame the parents for this crime. I was pray for u.

I see where he was charged for a crime in 03′ no trial yet, but he has been convicted on here already, I really hope it is not one of those made up tales that ruins a family. Innocent UNTIL proven guilty? or so I thought.

Most of us are perfectly aware there are bad seedlings in most families. This is a prime example, as parents we should keep communication open with our children (of all ages). Bond with them, inquire into their days, events, friends, and sadly even family.
I pray the children acquire proper counseling to deal with this matter. As for “Leon Nathaniel Harris” he will have his day in court. I do hope that justice doesn’t fail these two children (as well as others who face this same situation).
Sadly the system fails it’s citizens more often than not.Sadder even when it fails our children. It makes it easier for pedophiles to commit such acts, because they don’t get proper punishment(s).

For those of you wondering where the parents were. This was the children’s uncle. Who had kids of his on. So when then were @ his house. They were there with family. The parents trusted this man with there children. He is a sick man that needs help. And hopefully he will get the while in jail. This is a good family!!! Just had one bad seed. I’m sure there is one in every family. Please don’t judge them for letting there children stay with a trusted family member.

Dude needs to pay for his crime against children. 2 little girls will grow up with this nightmare. He will spend time in prison then be released, these little girls will spend the rest of their lives in the prison of memories of this crime. What a big man he is. I hope he becomes the catcher in prison.

    REGARDING:
“every one is worried about math instead of the children ”

Naw, we care deeply about the children.

The reason math came into it is because it was a while back whatever actually happened or didn’t happen and if the accused were still considered a child himself (as 17 year-old boys across the river are), then we would have a different perspective. We already wonder at the girls who seem to have gone back repeatedly for the abuse but we don’t have to wonder if a 21 year-old still thought he was a child in the eyes of the law and free from the law.

    David for personal responsibility

If this man did this then hang him high as someone suggested. But as we all know little girls have been known to lie. Not too long ago a teacher was accused of the same thing and a lot of you would have hung him then too, just to find out later the lying girl made up the story. This Man/Teacher was ruined because of her statements and would have been dead if it were up to most of you. What I see in today’s world is girls and young ladies would rather tell a lie when talking, even when the truth sounds better. I hope this didn’t happen but before you people hang this guy let’s let the facts come out first. The sheriff dept. has arrested many of people before just to find out later there was not enough evidence to support the arrest. DON’T HANG THEM TILL THE TRULT COMES OUT!!!!!!!!

  12. OldMarine on September 13th, 2011 10:43 am

If he was a she and a teacher this wouldn’t be such a big deal and a common occurrence

no excuses for him , lock them all up for life who abuse our children regardless of sex or looks .

the parents who allow this to happen should spend time in the can also for failing to provide security for their children.

  13. Judy on September 13th, 2011 9:21 am

Where are the parents? No girl for any reason should be spending the night with a man..unless it is her father…Come on people it is time to stand up and be parents..if you can’t or won’t, then give the kids to people who want to be parents…our society is too busy getting hand outs than be responcible upstanding people…..makes me sick

Go ahead and shoot him and get him out of the gene pool.

For those who were so happy to get on my case for the math mistake—even if had been 17/18 or 14/15 it was still wrong. Hope none of you EVER make a mistake. P.S. David–I hope you understand I was kidding you about being picky.

  16. MOlino jim on September 13th, 2011 8:16 am

david–picky–picky–picky. It was to early for this old timer to being doing math. still have to question where a parent was and the reason for the girls being there. Also as I said this should not have happen—hope the girls can get some help from the mental health professions and can get passed this if possible.

If you trust everything the SD says then Hang him high…I am careful to judge after first hand experience with those on the force who are not concerned with the truth and justice, but rather notches on belts.

  19. 429SCJ on September 13th, 2011 6:58 am

I would say hang him, but I know I would be wasting my breath.

  20. Interested on September 13th, 2011 6:51 am

It had better be jail for the rest of his life for this sick twisted individual.
We will be watching the trial and sentence on this one.

  21. Oversight on September 13th, 2011 6:38 am

molino jim has a math problem because 2011 minus 2003 is eight. Then take that from 29 and you end up with a full blown adult of 21 years old at the start of this sexual abuse. Maybe the rest of the story will be life in prision for this criminal.

  22. Frank on September 13th, 2011 6:12 am

molino jim, he was OVER 21 and they were UNDER 12, do your math again!

    SICK!

  23. big jim on September 13th, 2011 5:58 am

Check ur math… 2003 was 8 years ago. He is 29. 29-8 = 21…. victims younger than 12….. THERE IS NO REST OF THE STORY……… not that would make this any less repugnant…..

  24. bamadude on September 13th, 2011 5:45 am

@molino jim – where did you learn math? If he is 29 now, and 2003 is 8 years ago (this is 2011), then it appears to me he would have been 21 (29 minus 8). How on earth did you arrive at the 17 to 18 estimate?

A 21 year old having ANY type of sexual relations with a child (much less a child under 12) is WRONG and is a CRIME. PERIOD!!!

    2003 was 8 years ago, 8 from 29 is 21

    Yes?

  26. molino jim on September 13th, 2011 5:35 am

Odd story. He would have been 17 or 18 at the time. I have to wonder as Paul Harvey would have said– what the rest of the story was. Still should not happen.
