Bratt Park Renamed For Fallen Marine LCpl Travis M. Nelson

September 16, 2011

The Escambia County Commission voted Thursday night  rename the Bratt Community Park in honor of LCpl. Travis M. Nelson, the local Marine killed in action last month in Afghanistan.

An official dedication for the “LCpl Travis M. Nelson Memorial Park” will be scheduled for a later date, according to District 5 Commissioner Kevin White.

The Nelson family has also requested the county’s permission to place a monument at the park on Highway 4 near Northview High School, just two doors down from where Travis Nelson grew up.  Nelson was the first soldier killed in action from the Walnut Hill or Bratt area since 1969.

Though I did not know you LCpl Travis Michael Nelson, I think of you often. When I see a young Marine, The American Flag, the Bratt sign on 99A. I will always remember your Honor and Selflessness, and your Sacrifice, for us.

That is a very great honor to Travis, we are very proud of him and a statue of him in in his marine corp picture would be great and he could have his wish! We should start a fund raiser for him in the community so all the generations to come can honor him!! We will always love you Travis! SEMPER FI

    Very awesome Mr. Nelson!

I wanted to tell others reading this tonight Waterboyz is hosting a surf & skateboard art show to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, this foundation helps give financial support to our wounded military men and women.

Each artist can donate funds if their art work sells to a charity of their choice, I’ve elected to donate the proceeds from my art work in the show to the Nelson Scholarship Fund to honor your son.

Location Waterboyz on 9th from 5pm until midnight Sept 16th.

    God Bless the Nelson’s

Our Family is grateful to the people and commissioner of Escambia County Fl. What an honor this is to Travis, he would be very proud. He use to joke that if something ever happened he wanted a life size statue of himself. The funny part is that he was serious.
This park happens to be located a couple doors from the home in which Travis grew up in. His Mom and I will have a monument built and when complete we will let every know so that the ones interested can attend the ceremony. Again THANKS to Everyone for your much needed support. Please continue your prayers for the troops.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND SEMPER FI

A monument is a wonderful Idea. Future generations need to Know, and Remember, the Sacrifices of the Brave.

Renaming the park to LCpl Travis M. Nelson Memorial Park is a good thing. This is a place where Travis grew up and played. I remember him riding go-carts in this area.
