Billings Murders: Pamela Long Gets 28 Years In Prison

September 3, 2011

Pamela Long was sentenced Friday morning to 28 years in prison for her role in the robbery and murders of Byrd and Melanie Billings in July 2009.

It took an Escambia County Jury about eight hours over two days last month to find Long-Wiggins guilty of accessory to murder after the fact and home invasion after the fact. She faced up to 45 years in prison.

Long was accused of helping to hide a safe that was taken from the Billings home in her backyard and taking guns to Mississippi that were used in the murders.

“I feel a sense of relief knowing that those involved in all aspects of the murder of my parents are now being held responsible,” Ashley Markham, the Billings’ daughter, said in a statement released following the verdict.

    REGARDING:
“Seems like the world was a better place when there were only two penalties for killing someone. It was life w/o parole or death.”

There have always been lesser sentences. Sometimes there were even no sentences because the homocide was considered justifiable, such as when you killed someone who was trying to kill you or someone else.

In this case she didn’t kill anyone herself, she just helped the killers after the fact (and not very well at that).

    David for facts

This is a sad day!Our legal system sucks! 2 just got life for drugs! I keep my guns and pitbulls close! I won’t depend on the legal system to keep me safe. They set them free…

Seems like the world was a better place when there were only two penalties for killing someone. It was life w/o parole or death. What has happened to our country? How can a killer ever see freedom again? I guess the Billings’ life is worth less to the district attorney and judge’s life than the criminal’s life is.

In my opinion, she should have received the maximum sentence
for her role is this despicable crime.

But I sincerely hope that she is required to serve every day of the
28 years and not be credited for time already served !

I am so glad she got a sentence that will wipe that smirkey smile from her face. It was so sad to see her on the news right after the murders and her smiling as if the paparazzi were there to make her picture.
