Jay QB Suspended After Friday Night Altercation

August 30, 2011

An altercation during a Friday night football classic between Jay and Baker  has led to the suspension of two players.

An altercation erupted during the game, resulting in the ejection of Jay quarterback Conner Weekes and Baker defender Billy Cotton. Game officials said punches were thrown during the altercation.

The Florida High School Athletic Association has suspended Weekes and Cotton for six games. Both schools are appealing the ruling.

Jay lost the game to Baker, 27-13.

My father used to play football and he always and I mean always
obeyed the rules. He is not a pansy of any kind., he came
home from the air force with more medals than most of you have
    EVER seen.

These kids need to learn RULES and CONSEQUENCES.
It won’t make them pansies, but it will KEEP THEM OUT OF JAIL LATER.
AND YOU CAN COUNT ON IT. One of the most important things
kids will ever learn is to control their tempers and keep their hands
    to themselves.

This is what you get with poor officals. Larry Brewton is one of the worst I have ever seen. The FHSAA needs to get rid of him and his crew. Its not the first time for this crew and will not be the last!

    Rhonda,

You let the Officials handle it. That is why they are there.

Come on folks!!! Defending these actions??? That’s why they have Ref’s and coaches. If a player or players get out of line they are there to stop it. A player should not be out there defending a player as some have stated in some of the post. How will these young men learn if you’re telling them it’s alright?

wow, this world never ceases to amaze me, a good kid suspended for 6 games of his football season for taking up and helping out a teamate ! I would certainly hope someone would appeal it ! Ridiculous ! Is it rules you just stand there and let your team mate get hurt when you could have helped them ?

Classic Jay / Baker brawl. Wait til basketball season….

  9. Angels38 on August 30th, 2011 2:22 pm

He should be punished for his actions, but six games is a little much!!

I was there and we watched this all go down. This is NOT a case of Jay crying oh poor me. This kid from Baker was on top of our player punching him on the ground. Conner went over and was wrong in the fact that he pushed the Baker kid back down. Conner was defending his teammate from the attacking Baker kid. I am GLAD the school is appealing. While Conner should not have pushed Baker was way way out of line. Don’t attack the school and the kids unless you were there witnessing what happened!!

Football = tackles; and even those tackles have “rules”. If you can’t control your temper during a GAME, then yes, you should face consequences.
I’m sorry if JHS feels like this player will make or break their season, but I think the suspension is fair.

if there was any kind a fight somthing should be done but any way all jay people cry about something too do with some kind of sport now it is football now maybe the kid who got in trouble will learn something when you do something wrong something should happen too you

By appealing the ruling you are teaching your children they don’t have to obey anyone…..just appeal.

The rules are there and you should obey them or get out of the game.

I’m also wondering why people hide their names,
I guess they might have to defend themselves and we
Wouldn’t want that now would we ! Haha

  15. Jeremy Nolan on August 30th, 2011 10:49 am

And for you that have problems with this type of behavior
They will let your son b on the cheerleading squad !!
    Just saying

  16. Jeremy Nolan on August 30th, 2011 10:46 am

This is bull , I was at the game and the altercation was not even bad , hek how much damage can be done with helmets their helmets on anyway?
All the rules are turning this generation into( Pansies) that are scared to take up for their selves or their teammates !!
6 games suspension gimme a break!!!

This is supposed to b a mans game

  17. Thomas on August 30th, 2011 10:35 am

What do you teach the kids if you let this behavior go?

  18. Jay Citizen on August 30th, 2011 10:35 am

You know I have a problem with the school system at Jay to begin with and here is a example why, appealing the ruling. What are you teaching our children, OH it’s okay to throw punches during a school function. Maybe instead of the kids always being the ones getting punished the coaches and teachers need a little punishment .Sorry the kid got suspended but being accountable for your actions is a part of growing-up and he should know right from wrong by now,for heavens sacks it’s just a game, what ever hapen to someones going to win and someones going to lose. This is for life in general not just games it’s best learened now and not wait till you enter into this mean and crule world you have faceing you.

  19. Concerned Fan on August 30th, 2011 10:05 am

This is crap. No punches were thrown from either team. Connor was only helping out Allen. Only pushing and shoving occured, as can be seen from the video. From no angle has the video shown that there were punches thrown from Baker or Jay. It is FOOTBALL for goodness’ sake! Let the boys play!
