Gulf Power Sending Crews To Washington In Advance Of Hurricane
August 26, 2011
A Gulf Power storm restoration team of 65 employees departed this morning for Washington D.C. to help Pepco Energy Services restore power to their customers in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.
Forty-eight line personnel and 17 support staff members will support Pepco Energy Services in the Washington D.C. area, after Hurricane Irene has passed through the region. In addition, Gulf Power is sending 24 bucket trucks. These employees will help assess any damage and determine equipment needed to restore power. The crews are prepared to work for up to two weeks and will assist wherever they are needed.
Gulf Power assisted Alabama Power earlier this year after a deadly tornado tore through Tuscaloosa, Ala. and knocked out power to thousands of customers.
Pepco delivers power to nearly 1.9 million customers in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey, making it one of the largest electricity delivery companies in the Mid-Atlantic region.
“We’re glad to be able to help fellow utility companies when devastating storms hit,” said Jeff Rogers of Gulf Power. “Our crews are some of the most highly-trained restoration experts in the world. It’s common for utilities to help each other and we’re just glad to be part of the effort.”

Having lived on the Florida coast for all of my life and weathered through many hurricanes, my sympathies go out to all in the path of Hurricane Irene and to those who have lost loved ones. My son is a lineman in FWB and part of the Gulf Power restoration team. My prayers are with the team, may all return home safely.
Be safe little boy!
Maybe it will open some eyes in Washington, when Congress has to deal with a hurricane! Thank you Gulf Power! I know the people of Washington will appreciate your help! Be safe up there!
Thank you, Gulf Power, for showing Americans what it means to care about your neighbor. We passed the Gulf Power convoy in Buford, Ga on I-85. It was an impressive sight. It will take time, money and time from their families to help out in DC, yet, these employees were willing to go help their fellow man. America is good and helpful. United we stand, divided we fall. Let’s keep loving our neighbor. This will keep everyone encouraged!
We just passed a power truck parade and googled to see where they were from. It was gulf power! We are headed out of town on hurricane evacuation from NC. It’s great to see other places stepping up to help us! Thanks!
D.C. is a very dangerous place. be careful, may the Lord watch over you fine people.
What a great group of Gulf Power people we have here…leaving their families for a couple of weeks and willing to put their lives on the line. Be safe out there guys!
